3.6 she's alive i say, WOW, but

I finnaly got the 3.6 conversion up and running after many months of B.S. I will say as the front of the car lifts up and it takes off like a jet, its fast, the wife went with and her reply was holy *****, this car is fast, it has a rattle in the engine compartment i hope its only somthing loose, every thing seems to be in order but this idle problem, seems to be the same as Moses is having, when you start it, it stalls if you dont hit the gas, then idles up and down etc but if you tap the peddle lightly it settles down, putting the clutch in to stop yep it stalls, any IDEAS,

Jack O, yes your right i have no tail pipes yet and it is LOUD, the B&B headers and muffler are cool but loud, im gonna try the smaller tail pipes like you did, i think its louder then my race car,

i will say that everyone keeps trying to describe it but, im telling you its amazing, but i have stripped the car down alot, i will wake up the local vettes with it, of course with a grin ear to ear,

Widebody, i cant get you rs tube to stay in place it hit the motor mount bracket any ideas,

the 3.0 just doesnt compare to this, it kinda reminds me of a hemi gtx i had when i was a kid, ****s and gets

I bet your throttle linkage is hanging up and not closing the idle switch contact when you let off the throttle.

Todd's right.

Also, it's very common for the idle mixture to be too rich. You can lean it out by backing out the 3mm adjuster on the airflow meter. It's not a very sensitive adjustment , and may take 2 or 3 full turns. This is for the flapper style only, not the mass air system of the later 993 3.6's.

On the first 3.6 conversion I did, we used the cruise cable setup provided with Steve Timmin's kit. We found the exact symptoms you had (since we also had the check engine light hooked up it would also come on) We traced it to the linkage not closing due to the cable setup not being ideal. We got around it by adding an additional return spring to the throttle.

On my 3.6 I used the standard bell crank setup on the motor and trans and lengthend the actuating rods as necessary.

As far as exhaust goes, I can recommend B&B headers with the Timmins muffler set up with twin resonators. The sound is crisp, deep but in no way overbearing. It even quieted down a little further after a couple of hundred miles like a Borla system does.

Kevin

A standard bell crank on the motor (this one was from a 3.2) was used and mounted in place of the factory cruise control unit on the 3.6 as shown below. I left it mounted on the stilts of the cruise control to allow the factory fuel line to still run underneath

The actuatting rod on the right (the black one from the bell crank on the tranny) was lenthened with a short piece of M5 threaded rod, an additional piece of M5 threaded rod was used to make the rod to run to the throttle.
Stock rod ends were used to connect the bell crank to the throttle

At the throttle body end the ball from the cruise control was adapted onto the throttle body lever

Hope this clarifies what I was refering to.

Todd and Tyson you guys are right the cable was to tight i plan to also put a spring on it to help reach the idle switch, it still hsitates when you want to take off, so i plan to take it and get the oxygen gas mixture set, any ideas what it should be with a cone filter, Thanks guys, Kevin
