Early T timing

71T 2.2 that will only run well at advanced timing. I've done the static timing with #1 ATDC firing and the car starts up easily but unless I advance the timing, it runs really bad and chokes on fuel. Advanced, it runs really well with some occasional Zenith popping, idles well, takes fuel well and will hold rpms fairly steady where I want. When I check the dynamic @ 6k, the strobe shows pretty far advanced past 30 BTDC. Bosch Dist. No nasty engine noisy on the way up or at 6k.

I don’t believe 71’ Ts came w/bosch distributors, more likely Marelly (sic). The curve on yours is probally for a different engine & the increased static timely compensates for the difference. It could also be that the centrifugal advance weights under the point plates are not advancing properly. If you check the part number of the distributor it will tell you what motor it was originally set up for. I believe any distributor up to the SCs will work but will have to be re-curved/modified for your application.

The markigs on the distributor are 0 231 159 006. What would that be for? Cna this thing be re-curved for my car and how would I get that done?

Ok, so looking it up on the elican site, it seems to belong to a 911E of the same year. Is this a problem? Does it need t be re-curved?

Allen,

The 2.2 T engine could have come with either a Marelli S112-BX, or Bosch 0.231.159.008 dostributor.

The following thread has your advance specs:

Distributor OK for '69 S?

I see the 006 spec not the comparison 008 specs. I need advice on the best direction to take. Do I find a 008, find a Marelli, re-curve or advance and deal with the performnce issues(least favorite option).

The specs on the '69S (0-231-159-07) as well as the E (0-231-159-06) distributor were as follows:

Start.....500 RPM +/- 100 RPM
Flat......13.5 Degrees +/- 1.5 degrees from 1400 RPM to 2200 RPM
Ramp.....2200 RPM to 3400 RPM
Flat......16 degrees +/- 1.5 degree until rev limiter at 3550 RPM for the E or 3650 for the S.

Dwell: 38 +/- 3 degrees
Gap: .012 inch min.
Contact pressure: 17.6 - 22.2 oz.
