SC Kicked my A$$ last night!

Sometimes it’s the easy things that really get you.

I was working on my dad’s “new” SC w/ a 3.2 last night; replaced the starter, backdate oil temp, and etc. His oil pressure gauge is max’d out b/c the sender was never changed to the SC sender, no problem.

OMG! I fought it for over an hour; tried a crows foot – no way, got an open end on it by going under the a/c compressor mount – no dice. I had some real leverage on it and it would not budge.

Of course now the housing that the sender mounts to is loose so there is oil leaking out of both ends. Tonight, I’m going to try to remove the oil line to the chain cover and pull the housing and sender out and put it in the vice. Hopefully I didn’t screw up the ‘o’ rings on the sender housing, there are ‘o’ rings right?

Am I going about this the right way or is there something painfully obvious that I’m missing? I’m close to getting medieval on it!

Had to vent.

you could have done it the easy way and removed the 3 bolts that hold the compressor to the bracket, then removed the bracket. an SC compressor and bracket removal takes about 10 minutes. the aluminum bracket for a 3.2 requires muffler removal also. don't know which bracket you have. but that's the right way to do it.

It's a 3.2 w/ the 3/2 bracket. I thought that the engine mount needed to be removed to get it off? I moved the compressor but it didn't do much good w/ that bracket.

Bentleys says: disconnect wire connector, remove sender. WTF?

Yeah, I try to use at least four resources whenever I do something I haven't done before. This one seemed like a no-brainer, wrong!

Doh!

Well, actually I looked at the new sender just to make sure they didn’t use reverse threads, I was reaching hard.

In case anyone still cares, I tackled it again last night. Success! I didn’t remove the a/c compressor mount and just like JW said it would have been a lot easier but I didn’t want to have to remove the muffler and heat ducts if I didn’t have to.

I took a solid two plus hours to get it. I ended up removing the oil line that goes from the cam tower to the sender housing. Then after a long time of moving the oil line bolt that goes through the sender housing a eighth of a turn at a time it came out. I had to put the housing in a vice to break the sender loose from it. What gorilla put that thing on??

It went back together much faster b/c I didn’t need to install the sender until everything else was back together. So far no leaks (knock on wood).

Unfortunately, the oil pressure gauge is still maxed out. The seder wire might be broken somewhere but I was at my Dad’s house and he didn’t have a meter. Back to the drawing board I go!

Sometimes these cars remind me of working on F-4 Phantoms back in the day, PITA!

Weird, when I replaced the sender in my 3.2 I used a 1 1/16 (26.9875 mm) crowsfoot and it came right out. Had it back in leak free in less than an hour.

That is what happened to me, the guage maxed out because the wire was broken from the crimp.
Did you check the crimp, the wire, with a meter to make sure?.

LOL! That's what I'd have to say if I had a Carrera.
