Bake pads
I've been thinking about changing brake pads to see if I can get better braking. I installed a new master cylinder, and new soft brake lines. But I still can't lock 'em up. Don't get me wrong, it stops, but I think maybe my pads are some cheap arss ones or something? PO installed them.
Anyway, two quesions. 1. How can I tell which callipers I have? I know their are A's, S's and M's. Are there markings on them that I can see?. 2. Any recomendations on pads? It's used 99.9% for street. I will be in my first ax next weekend ![]()

Wow!! That's the craziest thing I've ever heard. Yes, you need to get those fixed pronto. When you finally get the brakes fixed you'll have a hard time driving the thing.
Metal Masters, or even stock pads are both good pads.

Keep in mind, it's a 74, so I don't have a brake booster. Just that li'lle ol' master cylinder.
Anyone on which brakes I have? I don't have a digital camer. Besides, I'm at work. Oh, yea, that's right, I'm at work. Hmm, should I do something? ![]()

I think you would have M's. The S's were alloy, and usually reserved for the top model (your's isn't an RS or Carrera, right?). I think the A calipers were on earlier cars, but yours could be that early.

S calipers have a hard line connecting both piston chambers. S's and A's both have a bigger bolt spacing, 3.5" compared to the 3" for the M. A '74 should have the bigger spacing.

Even with manual brakes your car should stop better than many/most cars on the road. It may require more pedal effort, but it will still stop really quickly.

Mostly street and a monthly trip (or so) to the AutoX track.
