Folding Electric Mirrors

I have started keeping my car under a cover and want to fold the mirrors back when it is stored. My driver's side mirror easily folds both forwards and backwards. The passenger's side mirror folds forward. This isn't normal is it? Anyone know how to correct this? Do I need to pull the mirror an check the swivel point?

I assume these are flag mirrors. My passenger mirror folds towards the back of the car. I don't think I can fold it forward but I will try tonight.

The correct way to fold the flag (and teardrop) mirrors is FORWARD. You'll notice there is a "stop" when you fold it forwards, where the spring is less loaded, like in the std driving position. The mirror stops in a position parallel to the car logitudinal axis. If you fold it backwards, it won't reach a stop, meaning the spring is under more tension than should be. Also because it is not in a notched position, it can touch the door glass, which in the case of the teardrop mirrors damages the paint of the mirror shell.

Also when you swivel the flag mirrors forward, you'll notice that the water drains out of them quite well. Helps when you're drying the car after washing it.

OK. I'll fold them forward from now on. That's good to know, although it does look a little funny. I'm still curious though why that one won't fold back though. I'll take a closer look tonight.

I checked the Pass side and it moves forward and aft on my Flag mirror. When I moved it forward as decribed above it appeard to be out farther from the car making for less room getting by it in the garage.

But.. I got the window frame out on that side presently and can't test clearance easily.
