Alternatives to Fuchs on early cars?

I could have 2-3 sets of wheels for a car. I will keep my 6 x 15 Fuchs and I will look for some 7 x 16 Fuchs (good luck, eh?) For a long trip, maybe the 6's with skinny tires is the hot setup. I know it is if I go into snow country or anticipate rain. The 7's would be ideal for a really low aspect ratio tire setup for some play time in the curvies. Maybe even a little track time. But, I really like the RUF wheels. To take a little inspiration from BB1's plate, "They're so hot." But here's what I don't know: What is the smallest RUF ever made? I mean is there even a chance of putting them on a narrow bodied 911?

I know, pretty far ahead of myself. The thing doesn't even run. Hah!

Isn't it Lindsey (sp?) wheels who can actually build whatever wheel you want in whatever size?

If not, I'd just stick with the 15-inch Fuchs. Smaller, lighter, better for the gearing...

Other options are Panasport "ST" types (check with TREmotorsports.com) and ATS "cookie cutters"

I'm all for bastarded-out 911's, but... IMHO, the modern wheels don't look right on the long-hood cars.

Thanks for the photoshop Jack. I think you could put soup cans on your car for wheels and it would still float my cork.

I agree about 'modern' wheels and early cars.....until you come to RUF. They are less slick than most of the stuff you see today. To me they don't look anything like the turbo twists, or whatever you call those things on my Boxster. Actually, the photoshop of the RUFs on BBII look super to me. Too bad they'll never fit my narrow car.

For me, the big problem is the offset. You don't get anything with a 'deep dish' look in the modern wheels, which -- for the early RSR's -- was what it was all about. Recent cars' wheels showcase the brake calipers, more than anything else. To me, this looks a little funny on an older 911.

And see, that looks good to me. The first RUFs I saw were last year at the German AF. It was in the for sale building, so it might not be there again. It was most likely a mid year or SC as they fit that car. Lots of other mods, backdates and such, so I couldn't quite get the year.

IIRC, Moby Dick had BBSs with the flat covers. No visable offset; in fact, postitive offset as the covers hung out on the wheel. So the precedent is there in a way even though the RSR predates MD. They wee both a ways back.

You put a double element tail on BBII for some pics on Rennlist. Talk about new on the old.

Im with you Zeke. I think it looks pretty nice. I'd like to have 2 sets. The fuchs for classic appeal and when I have a wild hair I can slap the moderns on. Its the hotrodder in me I guess.

I know Revolution makes versions of it's classic five spoke RFX (7x15 and 8x15) with any offset from 0 to 58mm. They have great brake clearance too. A bit heavier than a similar sized Fuchs, but plenty strong for racing. I used to run RFXs on the rally car.

You can also get their RZX (7, 7.5, or 8x17) in a similar range of offsets.

Here's a pic of the RZX:
