Patrickmotorsports=mean

I was curious about Patrick Motorports' G-50 conversion, but when I called them up to get as much info as possible before dishing-out almost $5000.00 for the conversion, all I got was someone who seemed very anxious to hang-up. He gave me no positive feedback. I decided to ask my questions via e-mail, thinking maybe I called Mr. Patrck at a bad time, but again I recieved no answers and a little sarcasm. What's with these guys? Has anybody here delt with them before?
Mike

i have not put money on the table yet. however i e-mailed Patrick motor sports with some questions and next day i received a clear & polite response from Jim? patrick himself.
I have seen good reviews on the company which is what prompted me to contact them in the first place.
Maybe you just caught them on a bad day - or I just caught caught them on a good day.
Probably worth trying again to test the theory.
good luck & let us know how you go

Patrick Motorsports, I had the same phone problem as you did. Ended up buying elsewhere. Another 914/6 user bought a welded engine mount from them that fell apart at the welds....there answer was....*hit happens, no recourse no offer of replacement...nothing. For the obscene amount of $$ they get, they should have a nicer 'tude....

Just my experience....

I have spent over 30k with Patrick Motorsports on my 89/930cab. Everytime I have delt with Jim, he has been completely professional in person or on the phone. Trust me when I say I talk to Jim alot about my car. Most of the time it is picking he brain for knowledge. I am totally aware that these conversations take him away from his business. I always ask Jim if he has the time to talk or BS.

Mike, did you ever think how many people call or e-mail him everyday. Maybe the way you were treated by him could have been from the comments or tone in yor voice. There is always TWO sides to every story and we have only heard yours.

I recommend Patrick MotorSports to everyone who looking for a completely professonal and honest businessman.

I gotta put my two cents in. I've dealt with Mr. Patrick in the past as well and have found him to be extremely knowledgeable and pleasant.

Call me crazy, but I think that if you own a business, you should be polite to your customers, even those without the "right tone in their voice"

Jim L,

I speak to many people during the course of my day...I have a very light hearted way of dealing with the world...I very rarely take anything seriously. My life is absoultely great...winning the lottery would not hurt.....But my conversations with that company rep, was to say the least...strained....

As a result, my $25K for my two restorations went to Aase Bros., Parts Heaven, Rich Johnson, Pelican Parts and GPR...at least when THEY insult me, it is good natured...

I've never dealt with Patrick Motorsports, but I have with just about everyone else. I noticed something very early on in my Porsche initiation. Many Porsche parts places are only interested in the rich guys with more money than brains that don't bat an eye when shelling out three grand for an exhaust system. They can tell pretty quickly if you fall into this target demographic. If you don't they won't waste their time on you. I remember who treated me well in those leaner days and I do as much buisiness with them now as possible. One such place is Doc & Cy's in Indianapolis. If you have an SC or older 911, 914, or 356 they are great. They take time to talk with you and really treat you right.

Ralry is so very right!!

I have met Doc and/or Cy at Swap Meets and Concours meets, and they are the salt of the earth. They may not always have the "best" prices, but they are fair and will talk with you, and treat you with respect and interest.

Seek out the people who make you feel comfortable and happy to help, and you will be rewarded thricefold......Andras

true story:
The fastest car I ever rode in was that tweeked 930 with the "600/600" motor combination (well, I was told it was so)and it was owned by (this might shock some) a Rich guy.
The mech (his name is Jay but we can call him satan) was ripping this guy off and every body else in town including me. Eventually he lost his customer base, left town and when back to tenn.
The rich guy never cared about the money he spent but word got around because I and others sure did (Daytona is not that big).
I will not deal with patrick - even if I do win the floria lottery.

wish me luck, I play each week

steve

I searched for this thread knowing it had to exist after my own conversation with Jim Patrick today. I called to simply inquire about a few of their 914-6 conversion products and had the same "strained" aforementioned conversation with the owner himself. Oddly enough this wasn't the first time I've been shut down by this guy but I was willing to give his company another chance. This is actually the third super rude interaction I've had with this guy but rest assured I won't make the same mistake again! I reluntantly reply to this thread but I do so because of just how poor the customer service I received was in addition to how lousy I felt after getting off the phone. Pete

It is obvious from reading this thread that the vendor in question treats people who spend money much better than those that don't. Apparently there is an initiation process whereby you buy something you think you need and take what you get in order to join the club. Screw that.

The funny thing is, I think I'm a little bit like this Jim Patrick, he he. I can't stand tire kickers and I see my share in my business.

TRE Motorsports

Speaking of shops and individuals, I came to TRE and spoke with Dave B. about picking up some low $ parts he had laying around, such as oil lines for $10 each. Dave was very nice and helpful, and explained to me in great detail what I asked and inquired about.
I know the parts I bought were insignificant to the amount of business he does, but nonetheless, I received the proper welcome that a customer should receive. Now that my project is almost complete thanks to Dave, I will return his hospitality by using his shop as my primary P-shop, and also spread the word to my peers about him. Thanks Dave and the rest of the TRE crew.

True...we have all been there in business....BUT you MUST know how to deal with people politely and end the conversation the right way.

Some mechanics stick to the 'im just a wrench' bit, when dealing with customers....but in this day in age, everyone needs to be a salesman and good customer service / PR person... or you need to hire someone who is to be the front man for your company.
