developed noise on the way into work
Hi guys. So having sorted out my intermittent fuel pumps as having to do with the yellow relay, I took the car on my 45 mile communte. And I developed a moaning sound that was discernible through the steering wheel as well. The sound is difficult to pinpoint becasue there is the whole wind-noise thing going on too. If I lightly tap the brakes, or jerk the steering wheel left or right, it disappears... but comes back momentarily. Any ideas on what parts to order?

Givin' a bump to help you out.
I have no clue to your noise.... You should get the front end up on jack stands and see if maybe it's a wheel bearing or brake hanging up. Good luck, Jeff |
Two most obvious places to check would be a wheel bearing or a stuck caliper piston.

A moaning sound can be contributed to a wheel bearing going bad. Most likely a front one as the steering will affect the sound.

Thanks for the suggestions. Interestingly our PP host does not carry the 930 front caliper rebuilds. As far as I know the front bearings are original, and I changed the rear ones over the winter (whata*****, BTW). The car does sit for extended periods, so it still could be either bearings or stuck caliper. The fact that it quiets w/ a tap on the brakes tends to suggest caliper over bearings, doesn't it?
