Question Gutless muffler

Has anyone tried to open up a stock 2-in, 1-out muffler, remove all the baffles and interior tubing and weld the seam back together? My application is on a 3.0 with "heatless" '74 HEs.

Yeah, I know it'll be LOUD, especially when I add a single 3" outlet to match my street muffler, but this "can" muffler will only be for track use. I'll switch tires, wheels and muffler before going to the next DE.

Anyone see any potential pros or cons to this operation? I'm getting the cutting wheel ready....

Why not make it look like the sport 2 out, I think that is one of the best looking muffs of all time!!

I read that it may lean out mixture a bit with CIS. Might want to check the mixture after it is installed

It was tempting at one time, even earlier this year. While I like the look of the 2 out sport mufler (even with it's VW Beetle overtones), I just spent a bunch of time and $ on new paint and installing RSR fiberglass bumpers, F & R. So I'm committed to just one, driver's side outlet.

Tim -
I got your e-mail. Very Nice!!

You can open up the passenger's side of the muffler for a dual out-look that also releaves back pressure. The bigger the hole the louder the noise. Start the size of a quarter and move up until you get the sound level you like. Then weld on a tip. Not much power is to be gained between that and a fully unrestricted system.

Another option is to open the muffler and modify the guts so that both sides flow the same. I did this with my 3.0L SC and really liked the sound and power (with SSIs)
