Did I get LUCKY or what?!?!? (Scary picture)

When trouble shooting my month long no-cold-running problem detailed in a previous post, I found the culprit to an annoying sqeek. Turns out F.I. line to cylinder #3 was rubbing on the blower motor housing flange where the two halves press together. Thank goodness for that stupid fuse problem that led to me living in the engine compartement for weeks looking for problems.

If not found, do you think this would have burned my car down? If you lok closely at the first pic, you can actually see a hairline crack forming. Yikes. Count my blessings.

I have read previous posts of engine fires and am paranoid of them now. Bought a fire extinguisher, and am checking everything back there... If in doubt, it is getting replaced!

Yikes! Wouldn't have been long, eh? I've seen more than one crispy engine lid, and I had a close call once myself!

I am paranoid about engine fires now too. I am actually really surprised that more Carreras are going up in flames (don't tell the SCWDP!) due to a notorious rear fuel line (the flexible rubber line in the very back that connects the fuel rails). It gets brittle due to the heat (cycles?), and eventually develops pinhole cracks. On my previous Carrera, I started noticing a strong fuel odor after driving for a while. I proceeded to remove the heater, plumbing, and all surrounding bits to inspect everything. I found nothing. However, when I started the car, and looked again, there was literally a geyser of fuel spraying up into the engine sound pad (which soaked up the fuel, preventing any leaks). Needless to say I immediately shut it down and replaced the line, after thanking my lucky stars and the P-car gods!
