octane boost
I used the search button and just cannot find the answer I'm looking for. Do any of you use the 104 octane boost product in your p car? The reading on the product looks good, but before I try something new I try to get the expert opinion from you guys. Let me know your results please.

It is very good at reducing the thickness of your wallet.
It does increase the octane of gasoline but the amount of the increase is dramatically lower than most people think. When they say it will increase the octane up to 6 points, what they are actually saying is that it could potentially raise the octane .6 not six whole numbers, 6 tenths. I'd estimate that you would have to use an entire can in 10 gallons to get that much increase. Not really worth it in my opinion. if you want to raise your octane buy 5 gallons of 110 av gas at the local airport and add a little to your tank. One gallon of av gas mixed with 20 gallons of premium unleaded will increase the octane much higher that the can of 104 and will probably cost less. 2 gallons makes more difference. Mosy octane boosters out there today are mostly methanol which has a higher octane rating than gasoline but it actually produces less BTUs by volume and can actually cause your engine to run slightly leaner. Not much but that would depend on the concentration. Or you could go out and buy some methanol and some toluene and some zylene and make your own octane booster like I used to do, but be careful and follow all the usually disclaimers, yada yada. |

What kind of car do you have? It will help a turbo motor if your having pinging, but only a little. If you have 91 octane it raises it to 91.4. Waste of money unless you have tried everything else to stop your car from pinging. The outlaw is one of the better one's.

It's the super-rare airport that has 110-octane gas, which is usually 110/140 (whatever that means) and is used solely in ex-WWII warbird engines. The only place I've ever seen it, in 37 years of flying, is at airports hosting unlimited air racing or at places that have a very large representation of warbirds. What you'll find at 99.99 percent of the airports in the U. S. is 100-octane.
