A/C system weight

I have 'factory option' aftermarket AC on my '72 911. Anyone have any idea what this system would weigh?

Should it stay or should it go now?

I pulled mine out of my 74, Pulled everything, including brackets, hoses, blower, and under dash mounts (replaced with correct knee pads). I'd guess the weight reduction to be near 65-75lb total.

I sure as shoot took everything, and I mean everything a/c-related, out of my '83 SC. In the Hudson River Valley, and with a sunroof, it's rarely uncomfortable.

Id agree its close to this. Compressor alone must weigh 20-25lbs.

Most of the original components are not going to do you much good, even if you do want functioning AC.

I posted a similar question not long ago. After recharging with some R12 it blows cold, I'll see how long it holds it's charge. I still haven't decided.

Well, if it goes there could be trouble, but if it stays there could be double.

Yank it. A/C sucks. Mine weghed about 75lbs coming out. If you want A/C in a Porsche, go buy a Cayenne. They're nice an comfy. . Just my opinion - here come the flames from the guys in Florida...

I live in an area that can get up to 110 regularly in the summer, and I pulled the A/C out of my '88 Carrera 5 years ago, and never looked back. I don't commute in it, and it is a Targa, so that helps. All that stuff weighed 65lbs on my bathroom scale. One of the great side effects is getting that compressor out of the way so you can do valve adjusts more easily. Now, to backdate that heater blower on the other side....

I pulled my factory system from a '73. I agree, 75lbs. Opens up the engine bay for easier access too.
