Intermittant MSD 6AL??
I think I have figured out that I have an intermittant MSD 6AL. After much (days) troubleshooting, and re working, it has come down to that.
I am reworking the ignition on my 2.7Rs type clone motor. While I would have loved to go with one of the cooler crank fired set ups, I have other things to buy for the car first, so I decided to replace my Bosch CD (failed) with the MSD, and the points with a Crane optical trigger unit. At first I couldn't get spark, so i pulled the MSD out and tested it per their instructions on the bench. It worked fine?! So back in the car. Seemed ok. Go to start the car, a couple Vrooms, then no joy. Well, after much testing, double and triple checking, I have been able to get the car running, but each time it just quits. When I crank it over, no ignition spark. Then after more apart and together stuff, ending in the same setup, I might add, it runs, and each time it runs longer. 5 or so minutes was the last run, when I shut it off to see if it would restart. Of course, it wouldn't! Any ideas on what gives? Has anyone seen such weird behavior from an elecronic component?? Usually they just go! My dilema now is to just go buy another one, (200, +-) or send it in for service. (I have had it in a box, brand new for quite awhile, so the warranty is Loooooooong gone!) Thanks guys,
