Houston - Labor Day Fun Run

How about meeting around 4PM for a country drive and ending up at the lsrpca social?

I have a cracked heat exchanger to replace. Hopefully I can get the bolts out or I'll be carting it off to a shop where they can deal with broken or stripped bolts. I have been without my car now for about 2 weeks and it sucks!! Have fun!

Princeton, all right. Bring your cell phone and we will clear some roads out west and really open up our cars. Let's meet somewhere on the west side of town...say Westhiemer and Hwy 359.

Steve, sorrry to hear about your car, but it would be a good time to get SSI's.

Westheimer turns into Hwy 1093. Take that out to Fulshear where it intersects Hwy 359. You could also do a mapquest for 1093 & 359.

Does 4PM sound good or should we try to make it sooner? The social starts at 6:30PM.

Robert,

Did you see you and your SRF on the lsrpca website under DE in photos?

Also, I'm in Austin and my alternator on my 928S went out. Anyone think I can drive from Austin to Houston with a full battery, no a/c, no radio, and no functional alternator?

Hey Princeton,

Doesn't look like too many takers. I'll just meet you at the social at 6PM.

<> Hope you're kidding -- to paraphrase Viking when Matt's car threw its alternator belt, 'No just NO, but Hell, No'

I know Rob Granger was playing with his spiffy pro digital SLR rig and got some photos, but didn't know about the LSR site. I'll go take a look, thanks.

Oh, that reminds me -- I bought a couple of pictures from the pro photographer at Hallett:

Robert,

It's a 928S, not a 911. Of course when the 911 belt fails, it will do a nice job of frying your engine. What's the downside of a 928S without an alternator?

I think you must be thinking about a 911 fan belt; I'm talking about a 911 alternator belt. Both/all cars need electricity to run all the electronics, in addition to supplying enough juice to the coils to get a spark out of the plugs. Viking told me the 993 wouldn't make it more than about 30 miles on the battery; once the voltage drops below about 11.2, the car's done.

I wouldn't expect a 928 to be able to squeeze 150 miles out of a battery if the range of a 993 is any indicator.

It's 2:00 and the weather's looking pretty crappy. I'm going to pass today.

Craig, what's the news on getting back from Austin?

Princeton, I'm not going out to 1093 & 359 today. I am planning on going to the lsrpca social at 6:30 (see link above).

Robert / David, I made it. See the end of this thread.

Edit: Oh yeah, thanks for offering to help David. You might want to edit your phone number of the web, though. I've saved it in my cell phone.
