HELP PLEASE, New motor is in , but it wont start

I have intalled my new engine (Rebuilt 3.0L) , and I'm trying to get it to start. I do have spark and I have fuel. When I lift up on the sensor plate for a few seconds and then try to start it , it will turn over, fire up for a few (3,5) seconds and then die. I continued to do this until the battery died. I'm going to recharge it over night and try again tommorow.

What is my problem? Why wont it stay running?

Thanks for any input
Rick

My 930 engine showed similar symptoms after I rebuilt it, and it turned out that the mixture screw had been backed out full lean over the 20-odd years sitting in the garage. If you pressed the plate down manually, it would deliver a bit of fuel and run for a few seconds, but it would never keep running because the "normal" movement of the plate did not allow enough fuel delivery. You can try running the pump, then turning the screw Clockwise until the injectors start firing, then back off until they stop. This is just to get it running - set the mix up after that.
