wind blown - NOT

One of the really cool things about the 911 is that the wind doesn't mess with your hair. It's also true about the 928. The BMW 535is I had...you open the window and all off your hair would be sticking straight up on the window side.

Porsche had to have done wind blown tests before making their cars.

Never thought about that but I guess it's true. I remember the old bugs my dad had when I was a kid (and still has). They had that vent you could open to direct the air. I never could figure out why they were there as a kid, but what a great idea. I heard they did away with them in the 911 because they made the car easier to steel.

My wife and I drove through a tornado this summer and our hair didn't get messed up, even with the incredible winds we encountered....

Vaguely on topic . . . I'd like to backdate my '89 to the opening vent windows and opening rear quarter windows. One of these days I will hunt through the bins at Parts Heaven and find the neccessary parts.

It's cool that we can roll down the door windows without getting our hair blown off, but it would be nice to get fresh air without rolling down those windows.

they used to stick wool tufts on the 356s and drive them under freeway overpasses - would stand up ther and watch or photo

later, they got a wind tunnel, even later computational fluid dunamics modelling....

Randy, that's so cool. I mean these guys were fanatics about making their cars.

I think a lot of what we percieve as fanaticism is really the fact that the car business is an appendage on the design/engineering business. Somebody once told me that Porsche was really a consulting shop that happened to also make cars. So that looks like fanaticism from the outside. From the inside (of the German mind) it just looks like everyday rationality. That Car & Drunkard article that someone posted the other day sort of said it all... Spendy lightwt. alloys? If you ask them why, they just say, "it's lighter" and wonder why you asked.

precisely... on the other side of this, if there is a problem, and you're called upon to fix it, suppose you get them a solution to get it fixed... that will not be enough.
it will bring up the inevidable question : why will your solution work, or if you already fixed it , how did you do it...

can be a tricky question to answer, especially in IT , if you did actuall troubleshooting , eg tried several ways , and got lucky.

To this day , Porsche is a consulting company, something to do with the second world war, no car companies were allowed to they moved to Austria and did consulting... something like that, dunno the details by heart...
