OK, so after 18 months of diligent searching, I finally landed an '85 targa. Problem is, both the wife and I enjoy the regular cruise - but what to do with the 2.5 year old? Good news - the car seat fits (quite well I might add....) in the +2 area. However, there's no shoulder belts back there, and no real way to lock down the stock belts to keep the seat from shifting forward or back during normal acceleration/braking. I could easily solve the problem if I could find a mounting/attachment point for the tether built into the car seat.
I'm serious here, the kid loves the ride, especially with the top out, and frankly, I love having him there with me/us. The manufacturer of the car seat sez they don't have anything that will help me, no modification kits, lock-down devices or anything. Any suggestions on maybe where to hook the tether? Or where to weld on an attachment point? Thanks!

There's a lot of information on this on the board. Use the search feature and you'll find plenty of info on what others have done.
I wonder if there's a way to attach the brackets for the LATCH system in the back seat of a 911. Here's info on LATCH: http://www.keepkidshealthy.com/welcome/safety/car_seats_safety/latch.html

Pep Boys sells a manual belt kit, about $20. Just unbolt the inertial belts and bolt in the manual belts, you're good to go. I had the same problem on my '85 with my 3yr old.

Thanks Teutonics. Found one at Autozone for $15. Strapped in and loving it. :-)

What car seat are you using?
Ours won't even come close to fitting. Mike

I pulled the rear shelf speaker and mounted a bolt through the firewall. These days, I use the same mounting point for a harness for my son.
When my kids outgrow it, I will pull the bolt and put the speaker back in - and you'll never know. ![]()

I'm using a Graco, but I can't for the life of me remember the model. Easyrider seems to ring a bell. Fits perfectly in the seat, no modification required. Only part that didn't fit was the snap on cup holder.

You may have mounting points for 3 point belts. My 87 had them, though the car came with 2 point belts. Just took off the rear shelf, and there they were, with cut outs already in the sound pad material and bolt holes.
Not sure when they put them in, but seem to remember Swiss regulations madated 3 points earlier than 87 and so many Carreras may have them. In 88 the US got 3 points in back.

Century has a couple of models that fit, thanks to a "rounded butt" on the seat, unlike the "big square butt" on most car seats. The "Breverra" (sp?) is one, the model pictured above is another.
