And I quote. Long and sad.

And I quote (long and sad)
"Things have been coming together lately in all respects"

I posted that at about 3pm yesterday. I was finally happy with the 930, no more oil leaks, she was running like a champ and I had Grattan in 9 days. My brake parts were being next day aired for me to install this weekend and all was good in Pworld.

At approximately 5:15 P.M. I was on my way to Branns(Cwiseman knows) for dinner and drinks with my wife and as I pulled away from a light she started to miss. No big deal, probably a wire or fouled plug. I pull over and give everything a look. No obvious problems. I figure I need to find the offending cylinder so I start her up and pull #1 wire to see if there is a change. There is not, bingo there is my problem and on the first try no less! I get the plug tool from the kit and commence removal, but wait I cannot get it over the plug? sadley enough, at this point some of you already know where this is headed . I try and try but something is obstructing the tool! What did I leave in there when I redid the gaskets a few days ago? What a moron I am! I fiddle around with a screw driver and finally hook the offending piece. As I pull it out gently it took a second before it clicked.

A head stud nut! Yep thats right, it's all over. A fleeting moment of maybe it's just the nut was snuffed out when I removed the "half stud" remaining with a needle nose.

So there ya go, 12 months of work and several thousand $ spent on the car and now she is headed back under the knife. This time will be more serious I am sure. And in case you were wondering, no I don't have the money to rebuild her right now. My first child is due in December, and we have a big $$ vacation that spring to Jamaica.

Karma is my pimp and he wants not some, not most, but all of my money. I am at a loss. Maybe it's time to concentrate on more important things. Such is life.

Arrrrggggg! On second reading I see that you found the broken head stud. Damn, damn, damn!

Every 911 owner's nightmare. Hopefully, you'll find a silver lining in this cloud somehow...

That sucks. I feel for you! I hope you have a warm place for her in a garage for the long Michigan winter. The new baby will keep you busy and your mind off your troubles. You WILL have the money some day to fix it. Just be patient - or sell some ***** on EBAY.

To make matters worse, you probably missed having a fat steak at Brann's, didn't you? (Born an raised in G.R. - went to Ottawa Hills HS - small world).

Len, I feel for you. That really sucks. I have a five month old son & he brings me much more joy than my car, even though sometimes my wife has to reel me in & remind me about priorities. I'm sure Mike is right on. When something that appears unfortunate pops up in my life I always look for the silver lining & somewhere down the road it becomes apparent. Congats on your exspectant child, enjoy your family on vacation, & look for the open door of opportunity.

Keep your chin up. In the big picture of life, it's not that important. (That's what I try to tell myself!)

Yep, it seems when things are going really bad something unexpected will come along and brighten the path, and sadley it seems the reverse is also true. Oh well, who knows.

That is the pits, but congrats on the child, it is better then owning a porsche, and if you thought a porsche was expensive.

Thanks guys, I hear ya about the child. I use to be one of those guys that would roll their eys when people talked about their children. Now that is all changing already. Commercials with babies in them use to make me sick, now I smile. Somewhere one of you is rolling your eyes as you read this and I understand

Have hope!

One broken head stud shouldn't keep you from motoring around town, especially if you keep it off boost..

...and a rebuild for a broken stud should only cost you the top end gasket set. Not sure how tight money is now, but that should be less than $200 I would think...

Good luck with the old baby, and the arriving one!

Since the stud I found was on the intake side I can only assume he was the second casualty. I probably broke one on the exhaust side first which overstressed the other causing it to also break. It was causing a miss it was so bad. I cant imagine that they are not related, but who knows. If it were only $200 I would squeel with glee like a ten year old girl but I am sure it wont be. This situation is so filthy I can only express it in a series of clicks and whistles.

other than 24 steel studs, and some gaskets, the job is mainly labor. you could knock it out in a couple weeks, in your spare time. the second time is always easier. i guess the old dilivars didn't get replaced, eh?

JW,

I didn't touch anything internal while it was out. The motor only has about 50k on it from PO's rebuild. I was under the impression that this is a BIG deal. You make it sound easy.

Reversing the Earth's rotation would be easy for JW.

Get Wayne's rebuild book, and you will see what you're up against. I just got the book, and I'm tempted to take the engine apart just for fun.

My worst nightmare. I went through similar feelings on the kids, but the optimist in me really comes through - used to look at adults with small children (before kids) and feel sorry for them, now I see adults w/o kids and feel sorry for them.

In the big picture the P-car is just a hooby and you have to keep reminding yourself of that.

Oh man, Len. Sorry to hear about that. Maybe you can just put the car on the shelf for a while, enjoy your new kid, then knock out the repair when you have some time. I think you'll want to pull all 24 and go with some steel studs.

Curse the Dilivar! Curse the Dilivar!

I saw Superman did that once on TV by flying around the earth so fast that it affected the rotational momentum of the earth and spun it the other way. Sounds easy enough.

Len, sorry for the trouble.
