Early "S" Coupe or Targa Values?

I was wondering if the early "S" Targa's are as valuable as the coupe's. I agree that many do not care for the Targa design, but after owning 3 coupes, sunroof and non. I am concidering the Targa as a fun simi open road car. I saw this nice yellow example on Auto Trader and was wondering if any of the Pelican's could chime in and offer some oppinions.

Thanks!

I think by the time an S gets as old as it is, it's case by case. That looks like a nice car. Low mileage too. $24,000 is up there, but it won't pay his divorce attorney. I'll bet he doesn't get full price unless the attorney takes it in trade.

Don't you hate it when a guy has to sell his car under duress?

Seriously though Pete, that looks like a nice car. Love the color. But need more photos to really do any sort of evaluation. -- Curt

a couple of early s cars...

there is a coupe and a targa in Colorado. Then another targa in California. Conditions vary with prices, but the targa's seem to be priced less than the coupes.

Sorry Curt, love the interior tho.

Coupe man, Shawn.

That guy has most of his porsche collection up for sale? That sucks, but all his cars look really nice. He will send you more detailed pictures.

I think it really depends on the year of the car and number produced.

Targas are GREAT. It's like having two cars in one! Mine's a "E" which I bought after not being able to find an "S" that I liked. Paid $12,000.00. You might want to consider an "E." I think you'll pay about 40% less for about 95% of the fun -- especially if you really are looking for "open road fun." For most street driving, there is very little difference between an "E" and an "S." I seem to remember that Car and Driver actually determined that the "E" was faster for street driving! Here's mine:

early S prices seemed to have skyrocketed lately. If I was in the market I think I'd either be looking at a good runner and putting a S engine in it or buy an original E. I'm going the first route.

Ohh and targa's suck, they're just like a wanna be sunroof coupe

Just my two cents.

While everyone's posting their early cars

I think as time goes by the targa vs coupe thing will become more blurred. These arn't really daily drivers (although I will stand corrected) anymore, so praticality matters far less.
What really matters is fun, and the targas have this in spades. Anyone who has driven along a winding, hilly road on a crisp spring morning in a Targa will attest to this.

I know that beauty is in the eye etc, but I have a particular fondness for early targas (especially in silver..). They're not pretending to be coupes, or RS replicars, so shouldn't be judged as such. In the flesh, the lines look really cool and 'classic'; it's a combination of the stainless bar and that green tinted wraparound rear screen. For some reason it seems to make more sense in an early car rather than a later one. Sort of how an Alfa spider looks better in early rather than later guise.

The S engine speaks for itself. My crystal ball gazing? I think once the dust settles, the S (or even T&E) targas will become more valuable than the coupes as a different type of buyer -the classic car enthusiast- takes the reigns from the kind of guy who wants a quick 911.
