So, it's Wayne's fault that his bolts were siezed? And Wayne never got under a car and acctually did these things???? I can't wait to see some of the responses.

it never ceases to amaze me how people will get pissed off about not getting all the knowledge in the world for $29.95. I'd be interested to know exactly how "valuable" his time really is...

If you call him make sure you record it so we all can hear.

I feel kind of bad about bad mouthing the guy after knowing so little about him, but it was his accusations about the author of the book that got me worked up.

Before I purchased my 911 two years ago I had never...and I mean never turned a wrench on a car.

Thanks to the cummulative knowledge the members of this site have and the confidence I have going into a project thanks to both of Wayne's books I have tackled no less than 30 of the 101 projects.

Have I messed up...you betcha. Was it because of Wayne or his books? Not a chance. Simply me trying to reinvent the wheel with my new found knowledge (boy is that dangerous).

Kudos Wayne.

I was thinking, "If Mat had a copy of 101 Positions, I bet he'd be accusing the author for not trying the positions as his partner said they weren't satisfied."

Wayne gets high marks from me for taking the high road. I'd be insulting his ancestors...

What did the guy expect? The project did come with 4 mechanics, after all. And how hard is it to remove the calipers? Big deal. The 4 mechanics means the job is not for a novice, so he never should have tackled it.

Thanks to Wayne...and the rest of the experts on this board.....I could take a vacation to Hawaii and then a 2 week cruise to the Bahamas on the money I have saved doing the work myself on my P-car..............BTW......I did take the vacation to Kauai!

i don't know how other peoples minds work but I like to spend about a week learning as much about a project before I start it.

I have read the book cover to cover. The projects I've done I've read so many times I can practly recite them from memory.

my preparation time is spent gathering the tools, materials and knowledge required to perform the task.

The book clearly states you need a special wrench to do this job.

I don't think this guy read the project before he started.

does anyone really think they can just walk out to their garage and start working these projects with no preparation.

I hope you see this...

One of these days - prob next month, I'm going to do a rear break job with the 101 book of which I think is great. I have done pads in mercedes but never the rotors. I have always been a bit intimidated by the rotors. After reading through the rotors section several times (one read through is never enough), I think I can do it.

I'm assuming some of the more difficult content in the book isn't really targeted at me, and thats fine. I appreciate being able to read it, and look at it. Perhaps in the future after I do alot more work on the car I will be able to or perhaps I will still want the mech to do a clutch. I don't really care either way, I got more than enough out of that book to justify its purchase.

Also, IMHO the engine book is leaps and bounds better than 101. Maybe its the cd, the autograph, or because you have more experience with the publisher. Either way I'm sure I can speak for most people when I say your book is outstanding and you have right to be proud of it.

Am I the only one with the Special Edition of 101? The one where Wayne comes shrink wrapped with the book.

All I have done is add water to get a fully functionning, beer-fuelled mechanic at any time in my garage...and all of this for thirty bucks.

If it was that easy then Wayne would not have to write books and garages would be out of business.

To critize the book on the basis of one or two projects is very harsh and propably unjustified.

Had he done 100 well there may be more info....and after all its only Wayne's view of the best, easiest or safest way to do it. Porsche itself would be hard pressed to say there was only one way of doing it.

Any way I'll buy sprocket 3's version when its published and we'll see.

BTW I'm technically challenged enough filling the fuel tank of any car so any abuse of my lack of technical insight is right but I'm pretty good at complex buildings, to each his own

Read that post this morning. Anybody with half a brain would know that the book is an insperational guide and not a factory shop manual. I was flipping through the book the other day just for pleasure, it's a good book! Don't let it bug you Wayne, I'm sure you have a lot more satisfied book owners than unsatisfied.

I buy every single manual I can find on whatever car or motorcycle I purchase. The "3-D" lookdown from all of the sources *begins* to get you to the solution. You just can't depend on any single reference to understand everything about the procedure you are about to undertake.

For example, I am writing about a utility that automatically determines the client-side IP address in a DNS environment. Setting up the daemon on the server is something I have to assume the user knows. Ya just can't explain everything and you have to remember who your audience is.

Wayne's book attempts to cover just about everyone. Tough to do and my hat is off to him.

I bought a 78 sc about 5 months ago. When i purchased the car the guy at series 900 said get this book. It was Wayne's. He (Damon at series900) works on these things day in day out. Incredibly knowledgeable. He said the book is not perfect but an excellent base.

When I lowered my suspension Damon made me use Waynes book as reference along with his help. We did it in short time and it looks awesome. I could go on ...

Hats off to Wayne.
