I noticed last night on my car that although the lock knob goes up and down, and the key works correctly, the lock in the "locked" position doesn't keep you from pushing the button on the door and opening it.
Thats something I really didn't like discovering. I was hoping to not have to disassemble that door until I had my new window channel inserts this weekend, but I really want to fix this lock thing. I'm 100% positive it was working until very recently, because I'm always good about checking the door after I lock it. How does the lock physically block the door from opening? How easy is it to access the mechanism? A search of the archives didn't find much, everyone seems to have power locks on here. ![]()

I had a different problem where the key would not lock the door. I removed the panel (There is a tech article on how to do this.) and found the lever on the back of the lock was outside of the clevis that repositons the locking mechanism. I was able to reach in and fix it.
Since your inside knob doesn't work, the problem is probably closer to the actual device that prevents opening. You need to remove the door panel and work with the mechanism. Frank |

Just fixed mine a couple of weeks ago. Had a similar problem when turning the key it would lock the door but wouldn't unlock it. The actuation of the locking mechanism when turning key is done by a V shaped object on the door handle in which a post is moved (for lack of a better description). The "V" is spring loaded and held on by a bolt. The bolt will sometimes work loose allowing both the spring to unseat and the mechanisim not to rock back and forth to move the post. The bolt head faces the outside of the door so in order to get to it you have to remove the door handle. Make sure you reseat the spring (it allows your key to return to the upright position)and add a couple of drops of loctite to the bolt when tightening. Not a tough fix just time consuming since you do have to remove the door panel. Oh and make sure the window is in the "up" position before you disconnect the switch. You can't get to the door handle nuts if the window is down. Good luck!
