NADA book value of an '86 911?
I recently totalled my car.
I just talked to the insurance adjuster today. He says that here in NH they use the NADA (black?) book value to determine the the value of my car/payout. I can find the "consumer version" of the NADA value on-line but it says that "The consumer values may vary from the N.A.D.A. Official Used Car Guide values presented to you by insurance companies, banks,...." Could someone with the "business version" of the NADA book look up the value of a 1986 911 with 137K miles for me? thanks, Chris

Chris - Be careful. Before my insurance company came back with a "valuation" I bombarded them with ads from cars similiar to mine - even assumed a 90% of asking and 90% of mileage. A good argument is that these cars are enthusiast owned - and because so few of them do change hangs that valuation is difficult. I sent them a copy of BA latest and greatest from excellence.
That and a sampling of cars in similiar condition to what mine was in got me the number I was looking for. Don't wait until they come to you with a price... Especially from some book that is more suited to Ford Taurus's...Then it's too late. Funny side of the story - when they called me with the vaulation - my adjusted said I was her first Porsche owner - and chuckled. I asked why she chuckled and she said because some of the other adjusters had told her that Porsche owners were a little different and definitely over the top - that made me laugh then... I asked her if I met the profile - she told me that I had by far exceeded her expectations... ![]()

Thanks Jeremy. I told the adjuster I could give him documentation to help him determine the value but he said they do that sort of thing in Mass but they don't do it that way here in NH. I think I'll wait until they come back with a number before I raise a ruckus.
I'm just curious what the NADA value is. -Chris

I'm curious if that's just some kind of disclaimer on the website or if the official book is really that much different then the online guides.
I know that you can buy the "book" at alot of the newstands. I've got one near my house that has every magazine know to man. Up on the top selve there are NADA guides for sale, don't know how much they are tho'.

NADA values on line look pretty good to me: They show my '87 at over $3k more than I paid for it at their "low retail" price, and even show a Targa to be worth slightly more than a Coupe. At least they are talking about a retail price when using NADA, and that you don't have to start working up from a wholesale value from KBB or Edmunds.
Good luck, Tom

Chris,
Sorry to hear about your car. I work in the car business, all NADA guides are yellow, black book is a completely different guide system. According to the Sept 2003 edition here are the NADA values You did not specify coupe/targa/cab, so I will list the coupe. $19200 retail $15725 trade-in $14175 Loan per the guide, mileage is acceptable (no deducts) Not sure how that differs from the "consumer" version, but hope it helps. |
