Mystery 911T w/ possible Euro Carrera 2.7
Hey guys. I took some pictures today of a 1973 1/2 CIS 911T that seems to have been retrofitted with a later model 2.7 engine early in it's life. One of the prev. owners was a military guy and I believe he was in Germany at some point. The car has a lot of nice additional equipment so money was spent on it which doesn't rule out a factory conversion/rebuild (to me). The small plaque on the fan strap, unreadable in the pic says:
"Porsche Werkstatte Remanufactured Engine Data Engine Designation 911/83 2687cc European Carrera Ignition Timing TDC at 911 RPM Idle mixture 3.5 % CO" Has anyone heard of this "Werkstatte" before? I know of Werk I... is this a predecessor? Also are the rears fuchs anything special? I know they are 15X7's but don't look like R's to me. Didn't have time to get the part # off of the back. Can anyone shed some light on this car? I know this board is up to the challenge. Thanks!

What are the serial numbers on the car and the engine? Does the engine type number on the fan housing match the one on the plate? Are there any logos on the plate? What is the part number on the MFI pump?
Sounds like the start of a great "barn find" story...

Carl,
That sounds like a great barn find. Do you have any pics of the whole car or just the engine bay? And was this around Chapel hill?

Not to burst the bubble but it's not really a barn find...the car is nice and dry and the owner is quite knowledgeable about early 911's and knew there was something up with this car. Too bad because, like everyone else, I love barn stories! I am asking this on behalf of him after I suggested someone on this board might know something about the "Werkstatte." It seems possible that the "Werkstatte" is or was a factory program to me b/c as we all know Porsche will do anything for a price. I bet they would build you a new '73 RS if you could afford it! He doesn't seem too crazy to publicize the cars whereabouts. I don't know the chassis number, but rest assured it is just a regular old 1973 1/2 911T. I won't be able to get any of the numbers off of the MFI pump or the fan housing until next weekend. Can anyone tell anything about the rear rims just by looking at the 2 different profiles? Werkstatte? I did some checking and the 911/83 does seem to the ('74-early '76) Euro Carrera and '73 RS engine. Can anyone else help? Thanks guys.

Engine type number 911/83 is the 2.7mfi engine as used in the '73 Carrera RS & the '74-'76 Euro Carrera.
Engine serial number would be 663xxxx for the '73 RS or 664xxx & 665xxx for the '74 & '75 Euro Carrera respectively. The Fuchs wheel looks like the standard 7x15" version to me - introduced on the rear of the original Carrera RS & used on many later models too. Andy '69 911E------->R
