Porsche Crest RS Door panels/thoughts

I have an 84 Targa and have a real h-on for the RSA door panels. I'm looking at the Appbiz ones on ebay which seem to have a good rep. I did an info search on this topic and found a bit of usefull stuff. Is the install difficult (doesn't seem to be)? The real question I have is how the strap connects to the door release mech.

Also, any negatives from folk's who have done this conversion? I'm going back and forth on the "benefit" of the pockets, but the clean look is winning me over. What are the thoughts out there for a street car?

Thanks...

I'm doing it, I got the bare kit so I could have them covered in Brown leather to match my interior. The strap replaces the rod that used to connect to the handle.

Call Bob at Applied Business Concepts (Appbiz) 310-539-0830 and talk to him about what you want and different options.

I wouldn't put them in a street car if the stock panels were in good shape, but it sounds like you're alread sold on the idea.

You can always go back to stock if you don't like them and they wouldn't be tough to sell used either.

"no armrest though....i happen to like my armrest when im cruising"

The rigid pull handles on the later RS panels make great arm rests

When you work out the cost involved in 'restoring' original panels (particularly pre-73) suddenly the RS panels seem a very good idea...

Yeah, the RS panels are a great upgrade, and their simplicity really cleans up the interior.

I've heard rumors they are lighter than the stock door panels by 20 pounds. Seems like a lot, but when considering the armrests and the storage bins, one never knows.

Can anyone confirm this?

With everything included from the stock door panels in comparison with to RS panels you'd be lucky to save 5#s total per door. I suspect it was half that when I did mine. There is little, to no, real weight savings. Which seems hard to believe. The pockets and lid are really the only weight savings. But the RS panels do really clean up the interior.

Yeah, I was suspect of the weight savings. Mine are actually carbon fiber look RS door panels, which are a new addition to appbiz. It's a great addition!

I was thinking the same - here's a link to the guys on Ebay who produce and sell them for approx $199.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2431709766&category=33705

And here's the details from the seller:

So many of you asked for them, that we went ahead and redesigned our RS America Style panels for your early (1965 to 1973 911 / 912) You are bidding on a NEW pair of Black Leather RS America Style door panels specifically designed for your earlier model 911 / 912 Porsche. We start with a water resistant fiberboard, not plywood!

This material was specifically designed for door panels. We add a weather side Mylar moisture membrane then bond to it a thin layer of sound/vibration deadening foam. This makes for a quiet ride. This set is upholstered in smooth soft black leather. All holes in the fiberboard and insulation are precision die cut (No routers or saber saws) Die cutting makes for a perfect fit and they snap right on. You merely cut out the covering for the accessories you have and pop them on.

This set includes Door handles with OEM bezels, Door opener straps (choice of colors) with OEM bezels, Handle anchor kit with setting tool (we anchor our handle to the door, not the door panel like others), (6)plastic panel panel retainers (a $10.00 value) As well as a set of screws and trim rings. This is a complete kit. Additional Matching black vinyl material is available by the yard, just ask. See my other auctions for Porsche Door panels Bare and upholstered, )Other RS America Style door panels sets,RS Carpet sets, rear deck units, Silicone valve cover gasket sets, leather shift boots, Other trunk carpet kits (OEM type and plush), door panel trim welt, power window reinforcement bezels and more. Stocking Dealer and Distributor inquires are invited and encouraged.

Packaging/UPS shipping within the continental (48) United States is a flat $12.00 This includes insurance. . I reserve the right to cancel bids from bidders with Zero or significant negative feedback. Paypal payment preferred, personal checks are accepted but will delay shipment until cleared. Thanks for bidding! Good Luck! Local bidders are always welcome to inspect/pick up their purchases. As alway this is a no reseve auction!

Those are the type I bought. I did not install them myself, but the seller (this is appbiz, I believe), said they're very easy to install.

They do come with everything you need for the DIY guy, however.

Very high quality BTW, and well-packaged. Also, the owner of the company is very informative. Good customer service.

Love mine! Did em in my 92 about 3 years ago and they are still looking great. My wife complains about the little pull strap but that's it.

I have them, they're great.
You'll be suprised how much
extra room they give you.
One thing, I had to install
three speakers in mine. They're
a little light for multi- speakers,
it took some work.

I bought RS door panels for my SC and ended up liking the detail on the stock doors better. When I put my Recaro SRD's in with the new steering wheel and shift knob it really dressed up the interior--and added a few hp I'm sure. I think they both look great.

One of the best upgrades to my P-car. I just hate those plastic clip covers at the door handle connection. They always seem to come loose and pull away from the door panel. I finally had to silicon mine.
