This is a "must" tool to remove the instrument housing from the panel. Insert the tip between the panel and the rubber seal and pull the instrument housing out. You will not damage the housing in anyway. Do not use the screwdriver and leverage against the dash, you will be very sorry and leave a permanent mark on the dash. Don't ask how I know. The model # is Snap on -SPB8A.

Good Mojo,

I just pulled out each instrument, checked out the rear, and checked out each bulb to see if was burnt out. Not much logic as to how they determine where and how many bulbs per instrument. Found a few burnt out ones, so I just replaced them all with brand new ones (could not find them at Napa or Kragen, so I got them from the dealer--before I found this board and realized our host had them) and kept the old ones that still worked as spares. It made a little difference, but it basically still sucks.

There was a thread a while back where someone was doing experiments with these things trying to find a solution. Not sure if he ever did, would have to do a search.

I don't get it, you have to remove the steering wheel to get the speedometer out but don't have to to remove the tach? Aren't they the same size? Maybe the speedo is just too long to permit removal with the wheel in place.

No, you must remove the steering wheel to remove the tach., not the speedo.
