Another Coil question

I was fishing around my car this morning before leaving for work (I actually DREAMT about troubleshooting the car) and found the positive terminal on the coil was loose - REALLY LOOSE! I could see a 1/16th" gap between the nut and the base of the terminal. I turned the nut 5 or 6 times to tighten it!

Where do the two wires from this lead come from? I'm assuming one of them comes from the alternator? IF this is loose, could this be the source of my NO POWER described here: Help! No go!

The car idles ok but no power when the GO pedal is pressed. I'm going through the fuel system to get that cleaned up, too but want to know what the affects of a UBER LOOSE connection here are?

Brad

Brad,

Both connections to the coil are from the CDI-unit ... and at idle could be 'shaken' enough to make connection. The symptoms of a loose 'hot' (carries +460 Volt pulses) lead -- what you called the positive terminal -- are a significant engine miss! Definite power loss would be evident, but you would feel the miss as roughness in the engine revving quality, too!

My suggestion is to download and print all of the MFI documents at the following Pelican page, and read them (especially Check, Measure and Adjust) before proceeding any further with troubleshooting! It sounds like an arduous task ahead, and you need an outline.

Because ignition, and particularly the advance curve, is so critical, I suggest that you also read the following thread about your distributor, and do the suggested checks:

distributor lube...
