Is it a 3.2? <fingers crossed>
I can't find an answer to this question anywere on the forums or from Mr Google so here goes: When I bought my car, a '74 targa, the seller told me it had a 3.0 transplanted in it and it was part of the reason I bought it. The records from the transplant say the engine is a 1983 3.0 but when I look at the underside of the case there isn't an oil sump plate. Was the 3.2 the _only_ engine to not have a sump plate on it? Are there maybe mutant 3.0s or 2.7s that didn't have them? This whole thing has got me worried....

Dude just look at the air filter housings. If it is the big camel hump looking thing taking up 2/3 of the engine compartment you have the 3.0. If it is a small square housing tucked sideways in the back of the engine and has a small air horn then you have the 3.2

Right, ok, I know that the 3.2s have a different fuel injection system than the CIS on the 3.0s. BUT, do all 3.0 cases have a sump plate on them?

Some of '83 3 liters got the new case design. The switch was done when the old molds were no longer serviciable, not at the model year switch over.

The late 3.0L engines had the same no-sump style as the Carreras. So, you probably have a late '83...
