Engine removal

A mechanic toll me he can have the 911 engine drop in an hour. Other shops just charged too much for the labor. Is that true?

Does he mean doing that on the Audi R8 ALMS Car or on a 911 :-)

Yes, it could be done. Having the right air tools and a lift would certainly help.

Depends on the engine, but with all of the things that need to be disconnected, I think an hour is pushing it. CV joints alone would take me 30 minutes. Add in another 30 minutes to shout profanities at the oil lines that are stuck and I'm already over an hour....

Last time I did mine by myself it took 2.5 hours. I think a guy who knew what he was doing could do it in 1 hour.

Yep, that's believable. CV joints could be off in five minutes or less. Unhook electrical (one minute). Unhook fuel and oil lines (not long for a pro). Disconnect shift linkage (three minutes). Down she goes. I'm guessing that a prepared pro, with no seized or stubborn fasteners, no turbo plumbing....a half-hour is thinkable. I knew someone who reputedly changed the clutch disk in a 356 in 45 minutes, start to finish. I know bug motors can come out in 20 minutes, potentially.

Having said that, it probably takes me five hours to remove my engine. Maybe less. I get faster each time.
