Tell me, what good is a laser detector if it only tells you about the laser after you've been hit. The officer will be happy to do that!

I haven't lived in SB for over 6 years now, and Cliff Drive was ALWAYS a speed trap with radar/laser! Seemed to go for the whole Mesa area.

Tom

Speed trap, yes....that's why I was doing 42 in a 40.....

Radar, yes...always. It's right next the Santa Barbara Silly (City)College

Laser....nope, first time I have seen it here is SB or anywhere in CA.....that's the point of my post.

One step away from Speed Cameras guys!

In france, they are installing automatic speed camera that send the digital pictures directly to the polica station for reg plate recognition and you receive your fine in 48 hours :-(

lucky americans!

Nailed by laser in Wisconsin 82 in a 65=$230
The worst part is, between 7 and 9 cars got pulled over, most with Illinois plates. I hate the Wisconsin State Police.

steveW 09-18-2003 07:28 AM

Here in sunny South Africa, they have laser cameras hidden on bridges etc and often on the wrong side of the road so uou expect them to be targeting traffic coming the other way.

The ticket then arrives in your post box a few months later when you have forgotten where you had been. With the number of cars running around on false plates, it always pays to go to the traffic dept in question and make sure it is your car.

Scolded for 2 MPH over? What a jerk. (course I suppose he could have tagged you.) What type of childhood trauma leads to disorders like this? And why do they all seem to work for the government?

Jim Sims 09-18-2003 09:25 AM

It now appears that any of the legal detectors/jammers are basically a waste of money and only give a false sense of security. One is now simply playing the odds if one is speeding. Cheers, Jim

One of the reasons I went and got my 930 at the time I did was because I firmly believe we have less than 15 years before we will be unable to speed AT ALL without fines. Although vehicles and roads could be regulated not to go over a certain speed dependant on the speed limit, that would put a lot of cops out of work and severly reduce the income of the PDs so my prediction is that regardless of the facade of 'saving lives' cars will be able to go ever faster and break those limits...

Every time you break law, no matter where or when, you will be fined. C'mon, the rental car companies are leading the way! I say speed while you still have the freedom to do so!

Cheers!

It's totally infuriating, being booked for 2 or 3 kilometers above the limit by an automated system that's hidden from view!

It's going that way in the UK too Adam although there will come a point when motorists will say enough is enough and vote anti car politicians out of office . Oh but I was forgetting that the British electorate are generally politically illiterate.

It's amazing to see the cultural differences around the world, particularly with respect to government intrusion. As I read this traffic safetycrat crap in AU and UK and their recent firearm confiscations particularly, I'm grateful anew for the US Constitution/Bill of Rights. Even though it's been eroded over time, it's still fundamentally "government of the people, by the people, FOR the people."

it's eroded because the voters won't pass the lock and chains BS.. so the liberals adjust the constitution in the courts.. the liberals went nuts because raising the limit on the NJ Tpke. led to noticably less accidents and deaths.

So, then, what're the Patriot Acts? Riiiiigght ... let's give up our civil liberties in order that the govt. may protect them for us. Yup, that makes sense ... like putting on a pair of handcuffs just because you like to wear jewelry.

If we are lucky the courts will strike it down as unconstitutional....but don't hold your breathe.....

OK, this thread's been hijacked.
And it's even further evidence (like we needed any) of the success of convincing people that have never read a document (or the salient portions thereof) what it actually says or does.

In addition to "Off Topic" there ought to be an "Off The Reservation" category.

Slacker, this thread was never even on topic ... a little farther off never hurt.

But please clarify to what/whom you were referring ... hurry! before Wayne moves us!!

Bones 09-18-2003 01:17 PM

Mr9146 09-18-2003 01:22 PM
