Got my "new" 70 911 T today

Well, a few of you knew I was getting my 911T soon. I got it today. = ( Yes, its much MUCH M U C H worse condition than was described. All I can say for those of you who want to buy a car from someone where you can't see the car... buyer beware. I mean its probably worth the $9750 that I paid for it. It looks cherry from from first glances, but the interiror is rough. The seats are mushy, the seats are at the pivot. I read about this. The floor pans are new, but the dash is a piece of shyte. The ext door panel on the dr. side doesnt sink into the socket properly...
The shift knob is a crummy piece of wood with no trim or emblem.
There also seems like there is way too much play in the shift movement, but maybe its supposed to travel 1+ feet forward and back?

And my carbs are out of whack because the guy who sold it to me lives way up north somewhere and I live at sea level.

So... the adventure begins! Maybe not what you expected, but then again it is a 33 yo car. Make sure that you take lots of photos, inside and outside, and from all angles before doing anything. Hopefully soon she will be so nice that you might forget what she looked like at the start of your project.

Good luck, and have fun,
Tom

Best of Luck on your car. I owned a 71T in Signal Orange with a black interior and loved it for many years. I still miss the throttle response of the carbs, the feel of the brakes, and the light responsive handling.

First off, congrats.

About your shifter, check the bushings and adjust the coupler. The shifts are longs but, when adjusted propserly not outrageous. Just don;t expect a Honda like experience.

If the car is rust free, consider yourself ahead. You can take your time and fix the mechanicals. Unlike rust, once they are fixed, they tend to stay fixed.

Best of luck and enjoy your new ride.

Sounds to me like you have yourself a pretty good car. All the things you describe are easily fixed for the most part. Just takes time. The dash sounds like the hardest part-mine too has cracks that I think adds character

Congrats,

For the record. I think you would have to spend in the $14k to $18k region to get a 70T without cracks in the dash or other issues.

101 Projects and a Dremel should be the first things on your 'to buy' list!

I have been where you are with my 72, you'll enjoy learning about your car. The shifter is a pretty easy fix - if you've never driven an 'older' car it will still seem a little sloppy even when perfectly sorted.

Enjoy the Florida cool season and get to work on your car...

Congratulations. Don't worry about the cosmetic stuff for now. Somebody appreciated that car enough to use it. Get the mechanicals squared away and then . . . DRIVE IT LIKE YOU STOLE IT!

Everything you described are features, not bugs. Sit back and enjoy. Open wallet. Repeat as necessary.

damn that car is gorgeous! even if the interior is a bit natty, the exterior is beautiful. the straight body with silver paint is the most important thing in my mind. everything else can be squared away w/o too much trouble and some cash.

Looks good to me. Put some money into the interior and sounds like you're still ahead. You're ahead of me, that's for sure. You want to see rough, come around my place.

Early coupe in bright silver, could well be the best combination, definitely one of my favorites. Looks like it's in very good nick too, seems like a good price to me. Like to see some pics of the interior, bet it's not as bad as you think.

I'd have to lose the cookie-cutters though, not as classy as Fuchs.

I would love to ditch the cookies, but I want moon wheels instead of the 5 spokers. The moon wheels were only on the 65 and 66's right??

The interior looks ok from standing outside the window, but under close inspection, the whole car has flaws. But I have some documentation showing $17000 in repairs and paintwork. Not receipts, but word docs that match the repairs that I can actually see.

The steel wheels were an option for that year.
I've seen them at swap meets.
