Finally got hit with "instant on" laser today....

Finally got hit with "instant on" laser today....luckily I was only doing 42ish in a 40 mph zone.....the motorcycle cop motioned me to slow down.

My V-1 gave me an alert as soon as I was hit...but the unit was like 30 yards in front of me. I hit the brakes, no dive due to my stiff suspension but I would have been toast if I was doing 5-10 mph more.

There was no "scatter" from previous hits to give me any warning. It did go off again with the arrow pointing behind me when he beamed someone else.....

I wonder if we are allowed to shoot back in self defence "Honestly Judge, I thought he had a handgun, so I shot back in self defence".

Yup, not much warning unless he's firing lots of shots at other motorists.

Edit: Ummm, last Friday I did 160kmh past a laser gun cop. He was on the other side of the motorway and he couldn't see my licence plate because of teh armco barrier. I got off the motorway pretty quickly and hid in a parking building in case he radioed ahead.

I got hit by one of those on my way through Ohio to MI. He got me going 80 in a 65, just one mph to the next price bracket! I don't have a great radar/laser detector, and it didn't even make a peep. Even if I had sprung for an expensive one, I still would have gotten nailed.

Nope....local yokels....Cliff Drive, in Santa Barbara. Technically still a State Highway....it's part of the old Highway 1 prior to putting in the freeway.

I think you got hit with instant-on radar.
The V-1 only has front laser.

I e-mailed Lidatek yesterday about specs on their new model laser jammer... I know the Blinder M-10 is a good unit.. so it's either the M-10 or LaserEcho/ whatever.........Ron

I got clocked at 68 in a 45 last night, got ticket for 65. I guess my radar detector doesnt do any good when its in my garage!!! I knew the Guards red and turbo tail would be attractive to the CHP.

Yeah, the laser is generally bad news. I got lasered and ticketed last week (86 mph in a 65mph area). My 10 year old V1 only does laser from the front and he shot me from the rear. Saw him in the rear view mirror when he hit the blue lights and pulled out of a pack of traffic he was hiding in, about 1/4 mile behind me. He actually wrote on the ticket that it was laser from behind at 1205 feet. Sigh......

FYI Ron, newer V1's have laser sensors front and rear ...check it out http://www.valentine1.com/home.asp

Here in FL we're now seeing laser with city cops, county sheriffs and highway patrol...it's proliferating.

Well, in Melbourne we're a few steps past that...

It's totally infuriating, being booked for 2 or 3 kilometers above the limit by an automated system that's hidden from view!

The new V-1 tells you that you are screwed by laser both front AND rear....

Come on Mikez,

I haven't lived in SB for over 6 years now, and Cliff Drive was ALWAYS a speed trap with radar/laser! Seemed to go for the whole Mesa area.

Dear dear Bill, you fellon!

I've had two speeding tickets this year at $150 each! Laser is very difficult to beat.

PS nice photo

Ha, an occassional fellon, I like to think of myself as. I adds balance to my life as the rest of it is being a computer nerd sitting at a desk. Time for a new avitar I thought, it's my mug shot from the work database

And just think, you helped pay for that laser gun, and now you pay again. Speeding tickets are thier bread and butter for making cash. Our tax dollars would be better spend chaising drug runners or murders I believe.

I'd never had a speeding ticket either until recently... infact I was very pro "road safety". It is my belief that in the last few years the "discretion" has gone out the window in favour of tax dollars.

Not too many years ago I used to hand these out myself (ex-copper) but I remember being one of the most lenient blokes around.... to the point where my supervisor would rib me about not meeting quota (even though police deny such a thing exists!).

I agree people shouldnt drive like maniacs or anything, sometimes people deserve it, but a lot of times they don't. Everyone knows of places where the speed limits are way too low, where it uncomfortably low for no reason...

What's most infuriating about that is that the ADRs (Australian Design Regulations) state that it is perfectly legal for your car's speedo to be out by 10%. So you can be given a ticket even though you are a good driver who always watches the speedo closely and never exceeds, to the best of your knowledge, the speed limit.
