Performance Chip installed - car won't start

Of course the dolt (me) that installed it - put it in backwards. So crack open the DME again - go over it again - and wouldn't you know it - it's in backwards!

So - I'm cranking the car - it's not starting - my wife says - how's it going to help performance if you can't even start it?

ahhhh -- Actually a Steve W chip and another happy customer - took it for a short spin and actually chirped the wheels from a start - my car has never done that before - never - my four year old asked me if that sound came from our car... Yeah buddy - don't tell your mother...

Sounds like something I would do. :)

Jeremy,

Have you noticed a quicker throttle response with the new chip?
Also, any other observations compared to the stock chip?

I'm awaiting the Steve W chip this week. I had to take apart the box to count the pins before ordering. I went ahead and put it back together so I could drive it this past weekend.

Oh yeah - much better low end grunt - Quicker throttle response - smooth idle - I like it - those naysayers just need to drive a car with the Steve W. chip installed. Again, I chriped the rear tires - and I never do that - so similiar driving styles - stock chip - no chirped tires - Steve W Chip - chirped tires - nuf said. HAHA How much more scientific do you need.

Even my four old was impressed... Oh and mine was a 24 pin...

Did you get that all taken apart with only that one beer on the bench.

You were drinking the wrong beer. It should have been Warsteiner. :>) ... "Life is too short to drink cheap beer"

Thanks Jeremy. Mine too is a 24 pin. Steve W. explained to me the difference between the 24 and 28 pin chips. Nothing to do with performance. The later 28-pin allowed Bosch to use one standardized box for different locations/applications(?) based on the chip. This is just my recollection of his answer. Sorry if I'm butchering your response, Steve.

Bob

EDIT: There is no wrong beer! That was a Bud and Michelob project. Only a three beer project as both hands were full with seat removal and those little tabs on the bottom of the Motronic. I splurge for Becks on the weekend. Maybe Warsteiner would be better based on past Porsche sponsorship.

Bob - and I was just up your way over the weekend - The cooler weather in the morning felt wonderful! I'm not sure if I could afford living in Atlanta - all those undulating country roads - The cops would be waiting for me outside my driveway!

Oh - and you don't need to take the seat out. just go to lowes and get one of their deep socket 10mm (I think 10mm) sockets (3.95) - for the two closest to the door push the seat all the way back for the front one (with a deep socket and extension) then pull the seat a little bit forward for the back one - then all the way back for the front one next to the transmission tunnel. For the rear next to the tunnel - I like to use the highly specialized and rare - vice grip and socket method where you just grip the socket with the vice grip and turn. Highly effective.

And to help you get through this job - It's a three domestic beer job - two beer job if you drink Warsteiner or Shiner Bock...
