How do you warm up your 911...
How do you warm up you 911 in the morning?
I let the car run for a couple minutes, sometime I hold a rev at 1500k, then go...shifting at 3k until oil temp is warm. Just wanted to hear what y'all do...

I keep my rev's under 3K til the oil temp reaches about 170 before I slowly rev higher til I get to redline.

170 F that translates to about 80C I belive.
Edit: that comes out to be 77c or so.

mine's an american , so no Celcius either
at least the speedo is in miles... the temp gauge has 50 as min mark , then 80 , then 100 in the middle the upper ones i can't say off the top of my mind, i think it's 120 and 150

umm 100 f would be a hot day over here. I'm almost sure you're getting higher than that.

don't matter that much , the needle doesn't go over the middle, and i'll keep it that way , no performance driving till i'm confident that everything is ok

I leave a brick on the accelerator until it starts smoking. It has to be warm to smoke, right?

First it's bad to "warm-up" a dry sump engine by letting it idle. You should do something like the following, Start car, drive car under 4000 rpm until there's heat in the gauge(needle moving up) then anything but redline until it's fully hot. Then she's ready to rip! Incidently, cool down is of the same importance, never put her away hot, do some e-a-s-y miles before the garage.

turn it on, wait 30 seconds, back out of the driveway and keep it under 12 o'clock on the tach until the temp needle is midway between the fat white mark and the 1st skinny white mark.

I keep the revs below 5 bar on the oil pressure guage until the oil temp is off of the cold peg. Usually happens about the same time. I have about 20 blocks of city driving before I hit the onramp to the (so-called) freeway.

My engine doesn't seem to have a temperature sensor, so I try to keep it between 3k and 5k (engine doesn't run much under 3k, and its lugging anyway) until my oil level gauge goes from 5l to 7l. (Not sure why it sees a 2l change in the first five to ten minutes of driving, but when it says 7l, the car is good and warm, so its the best I can go by until I work out why the engine doesn't have a sensor, and where the heck the wire is that ought to plug into one if I added it)

I follow exactly 91C2 wrencher way.
My Mechanic told me about the same thing too. Warm-up and the cool-down, which just as important.

When I bought my car from the original owner he told me his warmup procedure which was to set the hand throttle at 3000RPM and let run for 3-4 minutes. I thought he was absolutely nuts, but have since learned this is not bad advice for a dry sump engine. And it's tough to argue with results. Many, many miles on engine and it runs like new.

What is this "warm up" crap? Just turn the key and go. The more you drive, the warmer it gets, right?

true, but it ain't going to help your engine in the long run to run high revvs on cold metall/oil.
maybe not that big a deal in CA , but it does matter in places where the sun don't shine that much.
