Can I flip my 88 starter ring gear?

My ring gear has minor damage/wear on the teeth from the starter engagement side. Can it be reinstall with the unworn side toward the starter?

The only substitute for cubic inches is cubic dollar$.

This sounds like a question for John Walker.

Porsche Tech Ref. says no. Looks like the ring gear is slightly countersunk to accept the pressure plate bolts.

Kevin is right - the ring gear is a one way fit. They are less than $100 new, so going to the wider part makes complete sense.

BTW....nice get, Kevin!!
