Pulled over (fun)

Part of my daly 911 SC comute include a 1/4 mile ride on a connector.
I enter the connector through a 2 lane way, placed just after a red light that promptly transform in a 1 lane as it merges in the connector.

so, red light, I am on the right lane (ie: I need to move on the left lane at the merge point).
green light, I accelerate, move on the left lane, merge on the connector, 1/4 mile after I exit and guess what! big flashy lights behind me! I pull over and wait for the cop.

cop: Do you know why I am stopping you?
me: I am sorry inspector, but I have no idea
cop: you were street racing!
me: What! When? Where?
cop: I saw you taking off at the light at the bottom of the connector entry.
me: I do not even rember what car was next to me!
cop: It was a school bus...
me: look at the cop strange
cop: apears to be thinking deeply....
cop, smiling: Ok, just don't do it again... and waved me off!!!!

This was the biggest laught I ever had!!!!

Have a good day, Cyrille

Speaking of school zones reminded of a time I got pulled over. I had just dropped my son off at school (I was in the 911) and was pulling back out into the main road (right in the school zone) and was probably doing 20 mph in a 25 zone when this cop who had been simply parked on the side of the road in the zone flips his lights on and pulls me over.

When he walked up, I asked him why he pulled me over. He said that someone had called the police department and complained that I was speeding. I hadn't been speeding anywhere that morning and knew at that point that he was merely harassing me.

I am normally extremely polite in these situations, but was pissed at the pure harassment, so I said, "Did *you* actually see me speeding?". He said no. I then said, "So how are you going to verify that I was actually speeding.". He said, "I can't.". I said, "Then why did you pull me over?". He said "Have a nice day." and walked away.

That's the only time I've ever been pulled over purely for harassment....

You wouldn't believe how many calls go into dispatch from "good meaning people" who are just pissed or too nosey.

I once followed a dispatch because a driver with a cell phone thought another driver, on the highway, was driving less than acceptable. May have been true, but the episode went on for almost an hour. Now, I WOULD call in a guy who is drunk or just being a jackass on the road, but some of the calls are just silly!

A deputy pulled me over once, because I "accelerated through an intersection." He also said I was 5 miles over the limit. I was on my motorcycle and he was tailing me close to pace. Well I was on a four lane bridge, and I was not going to ride in someone's blindspot as it was. I edge out of the spot..no red lights, then I come to the end of the bridge where a light was about to change...so I went through (under cautionary light)...on came his red lights.

I was pissed when the deputy approached. If I had stopped his Crown Vic would have been a nice backpack for me. (when I get tailgated, I'm going to try and make space! Damn if it is a cop or not, I ain't going to be a speed bump, esp. on my bike.) He cites the vehicle code about accelerating through an intersection, and I was hot! I countered with some of my own knowledge of the vehicle code, and he backed off. Takes my registration and license and calls it in. Ten minutes later he comes out of the squad and states " I only wrote one ticket."

I reply "WHAT!"

He raises his hands and tells me he's kidding..

Right! He knew he didn't have anything on me. He just had to have the last word.

I am usually very kind to cops as many of them are my boyhoods friends in my area, but some are just ego trippers.

How many 25 year old school buses you see out there, anyway? They just aren't built the way our cars are...and....

Hey, wait...
...which thread is this again?

When your car looks fast just sitting your going to get some attention. I had someone call me in for excessive speed once on a two lane. The cop pulled me over miles later and told me someone called in and I said "what can you do about it without proof" and he said "nothing". I told him thanks for making me late for a wedding and see ya later.

Oh what timing.

My neighborhood is a 30 mph speed zone. I drive at 25 while in it due to the high number of children in the area, regrdless of which car I'm in. A couple of months ago I'm driving through at my usual 25 mph in second gear. This guy comes running down his driveway pumping his fist and yells at me to "SLOW DOWN!" I give him my best WTF look and continue on my way, at 25 mph.

Fast forward, yesterday this same prick was tailgating me through the neighborhood, at 25mph because I wasn't going fast enough.

Idiot.

"He said that someone had called the police department and complained that I was speeding."

For even more fun, at that point you ask " What time was the phone call?" Hand him your business card that says "Attorney at Law" on it, and continue "Because, I'm gonna subpoena your records."

LOL!!!

Same goes for me. Crowded street with parked cars on both sides...I crawl, but every kid in the sub-division thinks the road is for walking and riding their bikes..why do we have side walks?!? Never mind that they walk down the center of the road and could care less that you are coming toward them...

I'd stop and lecture them to get the F--K out of the street, but they may be stupid enough to vandalize my yard or cars! Punks! I'm going to start picking them off with a paintball gun from my attic window

I once blew through a stop sign in a gated community at 50mph at around 10:00pm. I was in my 914-6 and had just finished delivering a pizza and some pasta to a rich prick who didn't tip. It was my last delivery and I was on my way to punch out, but a cop saw me and pulled me over.

He walked up to the car and asked me, "Where's the fire?" I told him that I was finishing up my deliveries and had to get back to the store so I could clock out, go home, and do homework. He asked me who the car belonged to and I said, "Me. I built it myself." He did a walkaround - looking at the front bumper to see if I had my plate - then asked for my license and registration.

He started lecturing me and asked me where I worked. I told him I worked for Maria's Italian Kitchen and he stopped talking, looked at me, threw my license in my face and said, "Dammit!!! I'm sick of telling you guys to slow down!! You take care of us and we try and take care of you so slow the f**k down and get out of here."

He grumbled back to his squad pod and I boned out. No ticket. No problem.

Generally, the cops have discretion as to whether to take action on a complaint or not.

I lived in SFO for a while and rearely rode my bike as the car drivers made it very dangerous. Also, there are lots of bad asses in Spandex on bikes. You probably don't want to find out if this guy is really a bad ass or not.

I conciously drive very slowly in my neighborhood, but I have the same problem with a guy who lives a few blocks up my street.

Quite often, he's run out to the kerb to yell "SLOW DOWN" (and some foul language) at me, while shaking his fist (a sign of aggression that I don't like in my street) and all while I'm crawling along. Our local speed limits are 50kmh (30mph) and I usually do less than that, because the motor's so cold.

Twice I've stopped the car and got out to face him, and he's run for the hills (I'm 6'2" / 220+lbs), but since then, he keeps coming out and yelling. I'm beginning to think he's suffering some kind of disorder, but surely being disabled isn't a licence to go around busting people's balls.

The foul language doesn't offend me, but there's families and little kids running around and I'm sure the street's not going to tolerate it much longer. I know he does it to other people and some of our closer neighbors are really pissed about him.

I'm guessing it's only a matter of time until somebody knocks him out!

The problem with pedestrians is they were never taught that they are supposed to watch out for traffic. I had a ped walk into the side of my truck at an intersection one day, as I was making a right hand turn. He was talking/walking not paying attention.

He had that stupid look on his face after it happened. There are so many unconscious people walking around today, anything could happen, especially people who ride bicycles on two lane roads going towards oncoming traffic.

When I see a biker coming towards me in two lanes, I slow down, and will not move over to give him room, I make him move over. I think if more people would do this, you would see a lot less bicyclist on the streets cause they would get tired of riding on the shoulder of the road in the grass or move to the sidewalks.

We've got some of those "SLOW DOWN" yellers down the street. The husband chased one of my neighbors home one night to yell at her.

These yellers are the same people who block the street with a large plastic sign reading: "CAUTION:Children at Play!" In the MIDDLE of the street.

Grrrr...

I'm going to speak on the other side. We've got kids all over our subdivision, and they aren't bright enough to be cautious in the road, but I love 'em and I don't want them hurt - so I'm willing to go the extra mile to protect them. I crawl through the subdivision in my Porsche until I get out.
If your neighbor's upset with your speed, then why not slow down? If you have a 30 mph speed limit an you're doing 25, that's too fast.
I usually drive 17-18 mph (speed limit is 25) but I'll drive slower if necessary.
I was walking with my son at night and some **** came ripping down the street. I motioned him to slow down. I'll do it again if it saves one kid's life.

I don't know what you can get away with in Georgia, but Oregon has very stringent laws re the rights of pedestrians. And I think Calif. does also. You aren't going to be a very sympathetic defendant if you get hauled into court -- you'll hear a lot about your high powered, expensive sports car from the prosecuter or opposing atty. if it is a tort case (i.e. you hit some kid). It also doesn't reflect very well on the rest of us. So go the extra mile for bikes and peds while in your 911. Let the aged MB drivers mow down the pedestrians.
