Clutch cable ajustment

Hi all!
I’m interested in comments about my 915 clutch / cable. today I went t o adjust the cable and found that the small arm would not return all the way back, it would return so far and stop but if I pushed on it it would go all the way back. So when I Ajusted every thing to the right spec’s then jump on the clutch it felt smooth but had to much play at the top of the travel, so now I have compromised and ajusted the cable so as there next to no gap at the adjuster bolt. Do you think I need new “C” spring or how about a rebuilt of the mechanisim?. The cable its self is smooth and not catching any where.
Cheers Steve

I think there is supposed to be some play at the top. Where does the clutch engage?

The clutch engages at about 1/3 the way up the travel.

yeah Dean..

when the pedal is free from the foot you should then be able to hand pull the pedal up a little higher.. I think the info is in Wayne's book..........Ron

I was having all kinds of problems with mine not feeling right and getting stuck in the down position. I adjusted it a million times. I tried it without the C spring and it was to hard and then without the sping under the floor board, wow just right, works better than ever and has just the right feel. I hear it is hell to get the spring back on, be aware.

With cable disconnected adjust screw to 1.2mm, tighten up adj. screw with lock nut. Now attach cable and tighten up cable so your clearance decreases to 1.0mm. You should end up with 25mm +-.5mm of travel.

Don't forget to limit the overall travel at the floorboard using the stop provided for this purpose. This is a two man job: one person under the car measures overall "throw" and the other person pushes the clutch pedal in.

The information is in the Bentley/here at the site.
