Property tax

I just had to pay my personal property tax bill for cars etc.
My 930 was $142.00. Is this good compared to the rest of the country?

In California we don't pay personal property tax. However, our esteemed Governor tripled the vehicle registration fee as of Oct. 1, 2003. So the fee (tax) for my 84 Targa will go up to about $600/year. On my new Toyota Highlander which I'm getting in a few weeks it will be over $1,200.

I just paid $54.00 for annual registration. Land is Agricultural, house is ag and homestead. Heck, here in Texas for three vehicles, four trailers and the 23 acres I pay less than $600 a year total, and there is no state or local income tax.

Don't they tho? Oregon's car license fees are pretty low...I just paid $32 for two years, Ferrari to Geo Metro...it's the same for all cars. but I understand that goes up in a few moons, thanks to the legislature. BUT home property taxes here are a killer...much higher than in other states, AND the personal income and corporate taxes are also killers. In the 9% range for any income beyond $10,000...and the legislature just passed a "temporary surcharge" to that punative rate.
If one chooses to compare states, the only fair way to do it is to compare annual local/state spending as a percentage per $1,000 of personal income. That's because people in Beverly HIlls make more money than people in Lebanon, Oregon. When spending as a percentage of income is used, Oregon instantly vaults into the nation's top ten states for Government spending. Schools alone? Per pupil costs are 114% ABOVE the national average.

For $35 extra, I recently got a "collector vehicle" plate for my '73.
No more registrations, or emission tests, ever.

What are State taxes? Oh yeah I think I read somewhere that there is about two states that don't have them. That's right I live in one of them.

Renewing my SC registration and license cost $25 every year here in Nebraska. Compared to the $400-some I just spent registering and licensing the Boxster, it was a bargain.

We here at Pelican Parts are a huge supporter of Arnold for CA govenor. We feel that a socially moderate govenor will protect civil rights and not succumb to the right wing, all the while expressing fiscal restraint against spend-happy socialists, whom seem to dominate the legislature. The business climate here in California is so bad, that companies are leaving very quickly for other parts of the nation. We're a nation built on capitalism, like it or not. If the jobs leave, so will the tax dollars, and all of the programs that are supported by them.

As with most things in life, moderation is the key. California has quickly turned super-radical and liberal lately. It's time for someone to bring the government in line with the people. Although the California legislature is radically socialist and liberal, I believe that the majority of the people are disenchanted moderates. In fact, this recall almost proves it.

More to come on this topic...

-Wayne

You California people be sure to stop in Texas. Florida has no state income tax
( would take a constitional amendment to impose ), car registration is avg $50 per year, sales tax 6%, and Agricultural exemption for us poor farmers. We also have mosquitoes, high humidity, flat roads (BOO HOO),and way to many Yankee's.
As I said above Texas is bigger and closer so stop their instead.

Sincerely

WOW. A pretty serious political quote.

Any-hoo. I'm voting for Arnie, since I know for sure what I'd get with Davis and Busty, and there is no way that Arnie can be worse.
