Loose wheel bearing help!!!

My front wheel bearing keep coming loose every time I autocross my car. By the third run, you can shake the wheel and hear metal clicking. I just had new bearings put in and they still need to be tightened too often. Does anyone have any idea why they keep loosening up so often? Is there a way to prevent this?

Are the threads stripped on the spindles? Are you tightening the little allen screw tight enough that holds the nut on the spindle?

Are the nuts backing off or do you just have to keep making them tighter and tghter each time?

Maybe they were too tight to begin with and you have now worn out the new bearings.

The threads aren't stripped and I am tightening the allen bolt. They seem to loosen to the same point every time.

So what you are saying is the nut on the spindle keeps backing out even though you tighten it all the time?

Is the allen bolt loose when you go to retighten them? Maybe try some loctite on the threads.

DO you have the little locking washer on there that keeps the whell bearing in place?

I wonder if your bearing races are seated ALL the way and when load applied, they are creeping outward closer to being fully seated. A long shot I know, but possible...

The nut must be loosening. When tightened properly the distance between the bearing races will equal the thickness of a bearing roller. In other words, there is not much inside a bearing that is "compressible." Besides the nut loosening (likely), the only other cause I can imagine is if one or more races were not pressed completely onto its seat in the hub.

the bearings themselves do not crush.

Another possibility is poorly packed bearings. I have run across bearings that just had grease rubbed on the outside hoping the grease would migrate through the cage.
I would pull your wheels completely apart to check for proper race installing and packing of the bearings. If you need to keep adjusting them something is very wrong and you could loose a wheel.

Couple of possibilities:

Race not seated all the way in and\or at a slight angle
Warped hub
allen bolt improperly tightened
bearing retainer improperly tightened (tighten it so you can just barely move the thrust washer)

I guess I should have said 'inward' not creeping outward......Funny how when you reread your own posts, how you notice your own errors...
