I have an 85 Carrera that I am thinking of converting to a 73 RSR (long hood) look. I don’t like the look of the later “big bumper” RSR as well. I have the 73 RSR bodywork (in fiberglass) already and was curious if anyone had done this conversion. The rear looks like the removal of the center panel. The front short hood to long hood change is the question. I assume the latch position is different?
Thanks Guys |

Wow, Jens from Rennlist, welcome!
Hadn't seen you here before. No spaces or weird characters in the filename and it will work better.

umm...well...if I didn't have this insane property tax bill...and a 6 year old that is costing me a fortune...I might think about at least putting a ducktail on.
I have to admit I have thought seriously about backdating. Before I do that though I want to put some Recaro SRDs in. The original leather seats are aging quickly...oh and I need new tires. I also want a 70-71 E coupe. At least my wife can't really complain about my "hobby". In a little over 2 years we will likely have lost over $15K in depreciation on her car. ouch. yeah, he'll balance the budget, cut taxes, and increase spending on schools and infrastructure. I'm afraid he hasn't realized that special effects don't work in real life.
My annual property taxes are almost 2 months take home pay. |

Because of the cost and effort, it might be easier to sell that car and buy an early one.

Or go the Ruf CTR route... that's what I'm doing. I'll have the show but not much of the go.

Please don't complain about taxes. Here in Nj I have to pay 3%. Thats why I still haven't gotten my oil lines sorted yet.

Jens, nice looking car. I was driving in VT last weekend, you are really lucky to live in a state were the roads are in great condition and the views are spectacular.

Buying a wrecked carrera and backdating it might be a decent cost effective option for backdating

Carrera to RSR
Thanks guys,
I picked up an 85 Carrera in August for 8,800!. higher mileage but very solid and runs great. I was going the IROC look but I miss the smoother look of the early cars. I used to own/race a 72E RS look. I can do most of my bodywork myself, but flaring the cars ,smoothing the flares in on the rear is difficult! I can put quarters on easily. Does anyone know where I can get the early 76-77 steel quarters? I think the factory tacked on the flares then. The later turbo quarters have the large opening for the torsion bar, and require rockers. Of course there is fiberglass, but I was unhappy with my last parts from GT racing, MA Shaw does not make quarters. Thanks! FYI, my property taxes are $450/year/3 BR, Sweet home Alabama! |
