1974 915 Transmission
I was chatting with someone today and mentioned I had a 1974 Targa.
He went: "Wow! That's got a great transmission. Lots of people want that year's transmission." Anyone have any info on the 1974 915 tranny? He mentioned it had a different and highly sought after ring and pinion. Clues anyone? Bhueler? Bhueler? James

I think you'll find your answers HERE Or, at least a lot on information on the 901 and effective final drive ratios.
7:31 = 4.42 vs. 7:27 = 3.86 or 8:31 = 3.875 Jason Last edited by jase007; 10-09-2003 at 12:24 PM.. |

I didn't follow Jason's link, but they're probably referring to the 7:31 ring and pinion that year (mine, too). Later models had an 8:31 which isn't as torquey off the line, but permitted higher speed. It's why the '74 cars are considered quite quick, even with CIS.
