Easy Exhaust Upgrade

I have a completely stock 87 911 I have owned since new, and since I have been reading this forum, I have become interested in upgrading the exhaust and adding a Steve Wong chip.

My question is, what is the easiest and best upgrade to the exhaust system for a 87 3.2? Dansk? B&B? and what is a "premuffler"? Please excuse my ignorance.

By the way, my car has been EXTREMELY reliable for the last 17 years. I had a rubber oil line break about 7 years ago, the AC has always sucked, and the headliner of ny Targa top was replaced about 8 years ago, but otherwise NO problems.

I don't want to get into anything too complex with this, I don't want to jinx the car.

"Premuffler" or "Cat Test Pipe" is a nice way of saying no cat converter. You can do a search and get a number of opinions on headers. I love my B&B system but I've been told they don't have a very good track record on the mufflers. Decide if you want a stainless steel system (more money but better longevity) or a cheaper system. Do you want heater boxes? Here are a couple pics of my setup.

Jack has posted pics of his badly cracked B&B that has been repaired over and over again. It's definintely not pretty...

I think the best "bang for the buck" is a pre-muffler (Dansk or Fabspeed) and a single in, single out sport muffler (Dansk), and a Steve Wong chip to your spec. The car could alway be returned to stock and you will not have any anoying resonance. The additional cost of headers, a two out muffler, and modifying your rear valance will not gain you but a few extra ponies. To really gain from headers you would have to get more air into the engine thru a MAF, extrude hone intake, larger throttle body, and better cams.
