I would guess Boxster coupe. I only base this on the little tail poking out on the rear of the car. 996s use a larger extending wing. The only Porsche that I know of with that small of a wing in that location with those type of tail lights is a Boxster.

Would a Boxster Coupe be pronounced "Boop" or "Copster" ?

If it were a boxter the rear wheels would be set farther back I believe, being a mid-engine car. The back end of the boxter unless they were to change it, looks more, shall we say bulbous.

I would have to be a boop as the -ster ended refers to it's "roadster"ness that diallows the prescence of a fixed top. Also, this is a logical continuation of interesting Porsche names such as the "Pooper".

Not too pleased with the headlights...they should have made them eliptical(closer to the classic round)

I think if you look closely, it looks like they are just disguised to look like 996 lights. I bet underneath the disguise is really the elliptical version.

They are going to be round. The body will also have more sensual hips. I saw one pic where the front greatly resembled the 961. I wish I had saved that pic.

Looks nice and I'll bet it'll be even nicer looking without all the disguise.

Specifically, I hope the front is disguised, and won't actually be so bluff. I also hope the actual rear fenders meet flush with the trailing edges of the doors, so that the fenders can swell voluptuously around the big round - err - wheel. Right now the car looks a bit too much like an Aston Martin DB9 and in fact the proportions and the bluff nose make me think of the 350Z.

I've never liked the 996, the rear deck is just too humpbacked. With this car, the trailing edge of the rear deck is pretty high (look at the tailights, they are 8" higher than in prior 911/993s) but at least that allows a smooth flowing line down the rear glass and rear deck.

John:

Perhaps the high rear deck is a result of that TT V8 (say Cayenne!) in the bay.

And while the front spoiler with the two large intakes is probably more disguise, these intakes would be helpful to scoop in plenty of air for the twin water radiators!

If so, I'll look at all the peformance specs before I make my "religious" judgment of putting such an engine in the car.

Perhaps all the new "plush" needs more horsepower.

BR,

Kurt

Yes, I have seen several copies of this photo, but one in a magazine was blown up and easier to see. There is definitely a fake front bumper on the car to hide the real thing, the headlights do appear to be more 993ish, but with tape to hide the fact, but I can't tell about the rear end. I think it could be outer fenders to hide the real shape.

The fact that we hardcore Porsche fans need to ask that question shows that something is wrong at Porsche AG.

ANY Porsche should be instantly recognisable. Each model should have its own style.

Yeah yeah I know it's a spy picture and a prototype, but still.

To me it is instantly recognizable. That back end couldn't possibly be a boxster.
