Adjustable Dampers...
Hello All,
Other than Koni, who makes adjustable dampers (shock absorbers) for 911s? And is there one that doesn't require removing the shock or strut from the car to do adjustment? Many thanks! Sprint. |

My JRZ's are adjustable. Don't Konis adjust with a tool that you use on the top of the strut tower, at least in front?

Smart racing is coming out with a double adjustable shocks. There was an article in Exc. a while back where they tested them. They sound really sweet and somewhat reasonably priced. The front strut needs to be changed. I think they were hoping to price them around $800/each for the front. I don't think they're available yet but send them an e-mail to get more info.

I have Spax on one of my Triumphs and they work very well. they have a screw that you can ajust with a coin. ten clicks I think. I have mine set on 3 (soft) and they are still very firm!
They do have them for Porsches. hope this helps

The Ledas are great, but they're pretty old-school. I have the cheapest ones they sell, which cost about the same as Bilstein RSRs, ~$1500 all around. For me, it was only a couple of hundred more than doing a four-corners standard Bilstein conversion, so the adjustability and down-the-road coilover potential was a nice bonus. The best part about Leda is that strut length and spindle height are no-cost options, so you don't end up with a standard length Bilstein or Koni which may not be ideal for your ride height.
For track junkies, Leda does remote reservoir, double and triple adjustable units for several $k. I read the Excellence article, too, and I recall that there was going to be a less expensive version from Smart Racing also. Might make sense to wait and see what they come up with. |

Spax single adjustable front inserts (Boge struts only) cost ~£80 ($136) each and the rears are ~£53 ($90). Looks like a good budget solution if you have the Boge struts. Spax does have a "built-to-a-price" reputation. I ran Spax struts on my VW Golf ten years ago. I beat the crap out of them on gravel roads and they never bent or blew.

Chuck, on mine, the adjustment changes both bump and rebound, but in fixed proportion with a single knob.
