Let me intoduce myself
After reading this forum for over two years I feel that it is finally time to stop lurking and introduce myself. I am a 22 yr. old who recently finished college and I have been addicted to all things Porsche, especially 911's, for the better part of ten years. Last January with the help of my very understanding parents I had the honor and the priveledge to make my dream of 911 ownership a reality. I spent four months searching for a 911 to call my own and after many trips to see cars that were advertised as "perfect" I finally found the one. After a clean ppi and a few weeks I had a 911 sitting in the garage.
In the last 8.5 months I have driven over 10k miles and the car seems to get better with every passing mile. I try (with the help of the search button) to do most of the maintenance and what I cannot do the fine folks a Protec Motorsports are just a phone call away. My friends always ask why I got a 1988 Carrera when at the time I could have gotten a C5 Vette for the same money--I just tell them they wouldn't understand and never will get what all of us Porsche owners already know (and personally I like corners). Interestingly I grew up on muscle cars and my parents still have a Corvette that since I got the 911 dosen't see much action anymore, just too many squeaks and rattles for me now that I have gotten used to the 911 that is as tight as the day it was made. I am planning a suspension refresh this winter and I am sure I will have many more questions then. Pelican has all of my business and this board is the best I have ever seen. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1066358958.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1066358984.jpg |
Nice car. Great condition and nice color. Congratulations on P ownership in the prime of your life. Suggestion: Polish up those Fuchs! ;)
|
Granite Green is a very nice color. :) max

Welcome aboard Daniel, Its nice to see a young enthusiast!
Best of luck with your Carrera. Cheers. |
Great looking car--consider yourself very fortunate to own your first 911 at 22! Great job!
|
That's one of my favorite colors...and favorite models.
Welcome to the nuthouse. |
That's a classy 911, congrads....and I thought I was the youngest owner on this board at 24. : )
|
welcome. That's a very classy color, please post more/bigger pics of it and of the interior and engine compartment too.
EDIT: I'll be 19 in November....and I think there's someone younger than myself as well  |
Nope.. I'm 22 and I think there's someone younger than I
|
Real nice, took me till 50 to get mine!
|
Congrats!
That is one fine looking specimen! Congratulations! I bought my first 911 (also an 88) this year in March and the experience has been fantastic. Best of luck.

Beautiful car and nice photos too.

Great to have you aboard. I think everyone here loves that this forum puts up with no BS (or very little). This forum is all about people that love 911's because they are such great cars, not because they're better or flashier than others, but just because they are a great feat of engineering.
P.S. nice car, great color. |
Wow, so many posts in such a short time. Thanks guys for the warm welcome. As for the Fuchs I am torn between getting a set of 8's for the back and polishing or going with Fikse FM10's--I know they are a pain to clean but I love the look. The color is very different and rare from what I have been told. Sometimes it looks very silverish and on overcast days it has a definite green to it. Amir, I would be embarrassed to post pics of the engine compartment. Lets just say it is the only car that I have ever had that you could not eat off of the motor, for some reason the PO didn't believe in cleaning the motor every once and a while--I think my best option is going to be to drop it and clean it out of the car. As for interior shots give me a few days b/c I work really different hours and don't have a day off for a few days. One more thing I know that I will always, and I mean always, own at least one 911 until the day I die. This one might be a keeper and maybe after a few more pay raises a Turbo or 993 can join the party. Lastly, if anyone has any leads on a Carrera tail and deck lid let me know, I want to get another deck lid rather than drill holes in the original for a tail.

Great car Daniel. Now you have a Porsche you can never go back!
|
David, I have to agree with you 100%. I have never been in any other car that ages as well as a 911 or feels as solid even with over 100k. Everytime I work on the car something impresses me from an engineering standpoint--like the first time I pulled the wheels and learned Porsche used Al. lugnuts. Or when the fresh air blower motor started acting up and I learned you can totally take the thing apart and just fix what is wrong rather than buy a whole new unit, that one even impressed my dad. Lastly, I have never driven a car that can make all of the troubles of the world disappear like the 911 and that is why most of the time I take the long way home from work to clear my head and just enjoy life.

Very sweet ride. I got my first 3 years ago a few days before my 30th b-day. It was also an '88. about 50K miles later and it's still a great car ~160K now.
I have loved 911's since I was 8, at least, and had no idea how amazing they were until I started reading up on them. Like a great watch, they are a marvel. |
Welcome Dan! She's beautiful and such a unique color. Love to see interior shots. Spartanburg's just up I-85 from me. BMW country with the plant and all.
Currently, I'm rebuilding my front suspension on my '87 and the advice from this board has been invaluable. This is your last chance to get out now or hold fast for a heavy addiction! :) Cheers, Bob NE Atlanta burbs |
Great story Dan - and a nice car. I was a Porsche fan for years before I was able to actually afford one. I just realized the other day that I have now owned my car for over 25% of my life. You can achieve that milestone much more quickly than I did. :>)
May you never be "Porscheless".... Mike |
Very nice! Welcome! Next step, GruppeB!
|
Smart move, Nice car, and Welcome.
|
Welcome! Beautiful car.

Well I had to wait until I was 32 to get my first Porsche, a 73E - Signal Orange ... I still have the little rust bucket! now im on my second porsche, an 87 Carerra :D I just purchased last month.
It amazes me how young'uns like y'all can afford a Porsche at 22. Then it dawned on me, Wait!!! I have 3 kids a mortgage and a very wallet savy wife (not to mention the nanny). No wonder it took me so long to make these purchases... heres a couple of pics: The Carerra http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1066404516.jpg Now the Skittle: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1066404683.jpg She's a work in progress and for sale.:( Regards, Bruno 73 911E 87 Carerra Coupe 04 Volvo XC90 |
Bruno,
That's the only way that I can afford my 911.. Other than rent, food and tuition I have almost no expenses. Nice looking E by the way. |
Tim,
Thanks for the compliment. I hear you , If I were single right now, I'd be driving a brand new C4S. However, to be honest I would give all the goodies up for my wife and kids!! They're the world to me. I'm just fortunate to have both a family and the goodies :) B |
I know the feeling. I've been dating a girl now for 9 months (ya ya I'm a youngin') and I'd give up the porsche in an instant for her.
|
I'm more than twice your age but when I'm in a 911 I feel half that, just ask my wife. Nice looking car.

Welcome Daniel
Nice 911 SmileWavy |
Daniel - Welcome. Love the car. Bought my first P-car when I was 26 (took me a little longer to get out of College?) and could not be w/o one! Regarding the tail - DON"T DO IT!. I love it just the way it is - maybe some new or polished wheels, but the rear lines of the SC/Carerra are something not be messed with. I actually have the Cab with a tail, but really miss the lines of the coupe w/o a tail.

I bought my first 911 when I was 22 and that was 27 years ago and I still have it. I just picked up an 87 TL in lagoon green metallic and it looks to be close to your color, these three stage paint jobs do seem to change colors depending on the light.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1066420811.jpg 7's & 8's polished would look very nice, and lowered a little, if the car came stock with boge's (like my 87 ) switch them out for bilstein HD's the car will handle and feel much better also the first thing to go was that stock four spoke steering wheel, Pelican has the 930S steering wheels for a great price and that is a big improvement both in looks and feel. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1066422029.jpg Welcome to the board |
What a great response, I feel so at home--thank you Pelicanites.
As requested by many of you I have taken some pics of the interior tonight after work and one of the engine. I was very fortunate that my parents started saving for my college a very long time ago and allowed me to attend a private liberal arts college at almost no cost to me (10k in student loans). I live at home so I really don't have any expenses other than paying them back for the car, insurance, and my own credit card bills. Seeing pictures of all of your cars with the polished Fuchs just makes me want to call Al Reed and send them off but I have to get tires in the next week or two because my rears are slick. I am thinking the 930s wheel is going to make a wonderful Christmas present and mine is in need of replacing anyway. Guys don't worry about me knowing I can never go back to any other sports car, I know I am where I belong and things are only going to get better as I get older. My girlfriend of 3 yrs. fully understands my Porsche disease and has no plans on trying to cure it as long as it doesn't interfere with us. Last year for Christmas she got me the Bentley manual and 101 Porjects since I had put a deposit on the car (she is definetly a keeper). Thank you again for the warm welcome and if anyone needs any help or support just let me know. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1066437277.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1066437303.jpg |
Welcome. Sounds like your hooked. There is just something about these cars that gets under your skin.
I bought my first at 26. Sold my second at 36 to move to Montana ( wouldn't think of driving it on a dirt road ). But the hook was still there. Someone asked me to test drive a car for them about 5 years ago. I was hooked again. THERE IS NO SUBSITUTE !! Enjoy ................. the more you drive it the better it gets. Right now there 5 at my house. ALL ON A DIRT ROAD. :) :) :) Still car sitting an 88 Cab. |
WOW, I thought I was one of the youngest! I'm 26 and I bought my first just 5 months ago. Best decision I have ever made. It took me a little longer than most to get out of college also. I was just having too much fun. I also have a girlfriend of several years, and she understands my obsession and doesn't question. I have always dreamed of owning a Porsche since I can remember. I finally convinced my father to buy one a few years ago (88 targa), and from then on, I HAD to have one. I found the perfect one for me, and haven't looked back. There is nothing like going to P-car shows with my father driving one or both of our 911s. Congrats, and have fun with it!!!!
(and be careful, these cars are much faster than they feel) |
Welcome you did good!! - and Fuchs on these silvery metallic cars are the bomb! Mines Diamond Blue - Love the green!
http://www.a1-staffing.com/big_rear_qtr.jpg |
I did the Momo wheel instead of the 930s - both very worthwhile upgrades IMHO
http://www.a1-staffing.com/momocorse_jwd.jpg Hey Bruno, how much for your E? |
Beautiful car Daniel, I've been addicted since I was 12 and that was 36 yrs ago. Good Luck and enjoy! I feel like I'm a kid again everytime I sit in either the 85 widebody or the 65 912!!
Congrats! |
Nice car, and welcome aboard.
I waited until I was 34 for my first Porsche (and I'm not looking back). I'll make sure my son catches the bug a bit sooner! |
CarreraDan,
WELCOME! It's great to read your posts (all 9 of them) and see your enthusiasm; How does someone get to be so smart at 22? Congradulations.... you're life will never be the same. 911Rob |
