how does one obtain a cardex?

Unfortunately it is not like the Kardex you can still get from Mercedes....where you call them and they review and fax the build sheet for your car....for free.

BTW, you don't need to send them a copy of your registration or title or anything like that. They don't care if you own the car, they just want your $30. I sent off for mine while I was negotiating the deal on my car. Wanted to know if it was numbers matching, and this was the only way to know.

That assurance, in and of itself, was worth the $30. But I will admit that the sight of 4 or 5 lines on a sheet of paper seems very little for $30. Just remember, it is the quality of the information not the quantity of it that makes the Cardex worth anything.

I called a PCA office in Atlanta about a month ago. They said send them a letter requesting the cardex and that it cost $125!!! I havent done it yet and may not do it. Sounds to me like its overrated. Especially when I just read cases of missing and incorrect info on the cardex.

I have to tell you that I got mine not more than 6 months ago. I read your post, and thought that you were crazy, so I checked the PCA website.

You're right, the cost is now $110 plus $5.95 for shipping and handling if your car is older than 1980. Here's the form to order it.

I guess that I got in at the last minute!!

But, if you need to know that it is numbers matching or not, I guess that $110 is the price of admission. For me, the rest of the cardex isn't worth the paper it is printed on..

ok, screw that! i was thinkin something around $50 would be worth it.

i know my car has the matching numbers, i just wanted to see if the original owner removed any factory options or whatever. it would have been cool to have the car's birth certificate, but i feel it's a ripoff at $100+.

Are we talking about a Certificate of Authentisity or Cardex or are they one in the same. I was disappointed that my Certificate of Authentisity didn't even mention the fact that my car is on of the Commemorative Edition Carreras. Just told me my VIN, engine number, transmission number, color code and model designation delete (from memory).
At the bottom it said, "due to the age of the car, limited information is available."(again from memory) But I only paid $35.

I just got mine and was disappointed, it listed the options but didnt give the code, i already knew I had a "Passenger side mirror- heated". I wanted the option code as the descriptions were limited. I could have spent the $100+ on something else, oh well

BTW, the Cardex is the Certificate of Authenticity. One and the same. Interesting information for $35. Not interesting for $100.

Wow, times have changed. I got one for my 912 when I first bought it in '89. I think it cost around $30 and the "Certificate" was on a really nice, high-rag content paper, and came with an accompanying letter hand signed by the then head of PCNA in a very nice Porsche folder.

COA on quality stock, cover letter (signed), and the embossed white Porsche folder. Especially nice, since the PO supplied it with the car!
