Question Certificate of Originality

I understand there's a document I can get that lists all options that came on my car.

Where can I get this document and how much is it? What information is on it? Does it go by another description other than the one I used here?

thanks in advance

This is often refered to as a Kardex. Send a check for $30.00 and a phocopy of your auto registration (they need the VIN # and proof of ownership) to:

Porsche Cars North America
980 Hammond Drive
Suite 1000
Atlanta, GA 30328

Attention: Carletta Cannon

I sent for one about a month ago and it arrived within a week, in fact it arrived before my check had cleared. The certificate will show the original engine and transmision number, exterior and interior colors and factory installed options.

I got mine also. Not worth it IMHO. For $30 I was expecting more then a 8 1/2 by 11 piece of paper that looks like it came out of a secretary's laser printer.

Yeah I agree....pretty cheesy piece of paper for $30. But if you are Concours Weenie it might look good at the next "white glove and tooth brush seminar"

Try not to get any Grey Poupon on it.....

But it IS the only way to get the list of options, serial numbers of the engine and trans out of Porsche....so the $30 may be just a way of paying them to look it up.

BTW....some Cardexes I have seen will omit the information if "Hans" forgot to write it down if it was Monday and he had a little too much schanpps over the weekend...they make no apology for missing information.

I'll add that all that information is in the original owners manual by code. B. Andersons book has them if you want to look yours up.

Prices have changed. It is now $35, or $45 if you want it laminated.

You can get it laminated!!!! Wow. I think I'm going to need those extra points in concourse now.

Thumbs up

Thanks for the input. $30 or more for a sheet of paper is pretty expensive. I'll try the decoder first. Funny, I will spend $30,000 for a Porsche because you at least feel like you're getting what you pay for. I'm reluctant to spend $30 for a piece of paper because I think I'm getting screwed. Go figure. At least the Cardex could be made to look nice with a Porsche logo or something.

Back in the "good old days", I sent a snail mail to the factory. Gave a VIN#. A month or so later, I got a polite reply, listing everything a "cardex" does now. Isn't progress great?

Thumbs down

There was a previous thread on this subject but I couldn't find it in the archives.
When I imported my '69 911E from the US I contacted Porsche Cars here in the UK for their version of a Cardex - the cost was approx $85-$90!! What I received was 2 sheets of Porsche-headed A4 paper - the first was a letter acknowledging receipt of my cheque & the second was the 'Cardex'.
This was the information listed:

VIN NUMBER: 119200***
LEGAL SPECIFICATION: USA Left Hand Drive
MANUFACTURED: Stuttgart, Germany
MODEL: 911E Coupe, 1969
MONTH OF MANUFACTURE: June 1969
TRANSMISSION NUMBER: 719****
TRANSMISSION TYPE: Not Known (!!)
ENGINE NUMBER: 629**** (incorrect)
COLOUR: Light Ivory
INTERIOR Colour/Material: Leather

ACCESSORIES: Tinted Windscreen
Tinted Side Window
Tinted Rear Window
Aerial
Trim Moulding
Loudspeaker

ORIGINAL SELLING DEALER: Porsche Car Pacific
805 Burlway Road
California 94010
USA

& that was it for $90 !!
The Transmission Type was 'Unknown' even though they could state the serial number (!)
& the engine number given was incorrect !!
It was 2 digits out - too close to have been replaced later in the car's life I felt so I contacted Porsche Cars & queried this. When they checked they said they had made a mistake & the engine still in the car was the original one fitted at the Factory !!
In my opinion it is a rip-off (the same information is provided by other manufacturers in the UK for about $15-$20) but is worthwhile having to pass on when you come to sell the car.

Thanks for the listing Andy.

I was wondering what £55 pounds bought from Porsche UK. I have not bothered to get this for my car, and you have just made my mind up for me!

As much as I would like to know if the AC was standard, and confirm my belief that the engine is original, I just can't justify the expense - what a miser ;-)
