Q. Rear Deck Lid for a '67 S Targa
A friend of mine had his orginal paint '67 hit by an SUV. The rear deck lid is toast as well as the grills.
What years were the 911 rear lids the same for his Targa.

The 67 lid had a central vertical bar under the grill. This lid was used from 65 to mid 68. There may be minor differences with holes for scripts and rear wiper.

Jim,
The rear decklid should be the same for the targa and coupe. As Nick mentioned above, the engine grill applicable to the 1967 model year must come from a 1965-68 car. They do come up on EBay occasionally and should not be too difficult to find. Good luck. PS If this is all that was damaged on your friend's car, he should consider himself fortunate. |

I have 3 in various conditions, but hardly worth sending across the pond. In the meantime he can fit virtually any lid upto 89 to keep him on the road

nick is correct, all lids fit all years, correct lid for 67 has the vertical bar, I think there are some early differences with/without rear wiper mounts as it became an option in 67? So 65-66 may not have the round tube welded in, then I recall there were some the tube changed sides? or had two? Further research will determine your exact numbers matching cardex nose in the air concours needs :>)

Bear in mind that post-'73 engine lids do not have the rectangular cut-outs along the bottom edge to accept the earlier style of licence plate lights.
The correct swb engine lid grilles are also becoming more difficult to find in good (unbent) condition. Andy '69 911E------>R

Although, Porsche engineers were keen to retain the actual embossement on the uderside of the newer lids, although not punched for the lights, one can install them. This meant the parts inventory could maintain inventory stock , with slight mods, still fit and function. Same with doors. Yes part numbers change, superceded, but Porsche really tried to maintain a backdate fit for an amazing number of parts. However that has ended with the 996. How about this, a 993 roof skin fits a 65 911...no rear venting holes though...

Thanks for the information.
The damage was more than the rear deck lid. Also, the rear passenger qtr, and bumper has a crease and the rear valance/plate cover has been damaged. Such a shame to see a great car in that condition
