RUF Visit pix - PCA Germany Region

Just got back from an enjoyable afternoon at the RUF facility in Pfaffenhausen. Alois Ruf and his staff were most gracious hosts.

Some highlights:
959

Yellowbird (my personal favorite)

Ruf 996TT

Porsche 901 #37

Mr. Ruf with 901 #37's engine

Speedster in the restoration facility

Wow I could almost smell the Deutchmarks. I wonder what a Speedster restoration goes for. Place is surreal like Disneyland for old fat guys like me. That Viper stood out like a turd in the punch bowl.

Nice! Has RUF done anything with a Viper as a platform?

One of the attendees brough the Viper. It did get some attention, but most was directed towards the 901.

As you can see, the facility was immaculate.

The front of the building was all service bays for regular maintenance. They do offer this independent shop service "at competitive rates".

The area behind the service bays (where the 901 was) was the assembly area. They had a Boxster 3600S on display and a GT2 being reassembled from an accident. The "broken" body was on a frame jig in the body shop and the body being reassembled was a new one from the factory (wonder how much that cost).
3600S

There was also a TT body that just had a roll cage installed and prepped for paint and a cab that was getting the TT treatment (the rear intakes had recently been cut out).

Next to the reassembly are was the engine shop. There were 4-5 in various stages. The dyno was in the next room over. It was en engine dyno with a tranny mounted and an electric engine to simulate resistance and what not. The next room over had a secret project going on, so he skipped that one.

The restoration facility has various car including 3-4 more speedsters in various statges of completion. A recent arrival was a '61 coupe shipped in from San Diego. He said it would take about a year to complete.

Also on the restoration facility side (which is across the street from the shop) is the Ruf Maserati dealership. They've been doing that for 3-4 years now (who knew?).

The town of Pfaffenhausen is your averaged size quaint German town. It was about 100 miles southwest of Stuttgart. Once off the autobahn, the two lane road to the town was a very pleasant 40km drive with plenty of opportunities to pass tractors and the like to keep the pace up. If you're ever in the area, I recommend a visit to the shop.

George....YOU SUCK!

Now I know what I missed.....cry!

Just kidding on the you suck part, I would have been there if I wasn't doing the engine drop and clutch replacement thing.

I REALLY wish I would have gone, and now I must wait until next years visit to go.

Thanks for the pics and hurry up and visit K-town with the 911 so I can see it in person.
