915 gear stack removal w/o removing shift forks?
I've got my 915 partially disassembled, but I'm stuck. I looked at past listings and in several, it was suggested that the gear stacks could be removed without removing the shift forks, by shifting into third gear and then pulling the whole mess out.
It seems that the 1-2 shift fork is linked to the 3-4 shift forks, such that I can pull one forward, but not the other. What am I missing? I've opended up the two bolts on the side and removed the shift detents and springs. Thanks, Jerry Kroeger

shift the mainshaft to 3rd, wrap your hands around both gear stacks and forks, lift and wiggle vigorously. reassemble the same way. be sure the detent between the shift shafts is in the proper place on reassembly. same for the detent against 5th/rev shaft. they can easily slide up into their drilling and become useless. then you get stuck between two gears a lot.
