I like how they rubbed off the dust/dirt around the 911SC emblem on the back to show its authenticity. So is it still and SC?

Hmmmm. I wonder why he's selling it at a loss? A tad disappointed, perhaps?

The IN-famous RENEGADE HYBRIDS may be a more correct term. IIRC, Grassroots had the "famous RENEGADE HYBRIDS" do a Chevy into Porsche conversion for them a few years ago. After going considerably over budget and over schedule they finally took delivery of a "conversion" that had (among other problems) handling/suspension issues, over-heating issues, fraught with poor fabrication through-out. They were, to say the least, not impressed. They finally, after repeated attempts to make it reliable and semi-useful, decided to dump the car and the whole idea. I'm sure such a conversion could be done successfully (anything's possible if you throw enough money at it), I'm not sure it has ever been successfully done by "famous RENEGADE HYBRIDS". Personally, I think, if you want a Camaro, don't be ashamed of it, buy a Camaro.

I'm curious why anyone would put the older and hideous steering wheel in a '79 SC.

Now, i am hoping to dear god that i am wrong right now. But i can swear that i see the outlining letter of "porsche" on that left side valve cover. I really hope someone tells me i'm wrong.

I think it is a fun drag racing conversion one can do on an all beat up rusty mid 70s car. If you only go drag racing, overheating isn't a problem an you will have superb traction with all that weight! Now, if you want to go autocross, that's another issue. The center of gravity on that V8 is about 2 feet of the ground and the engine is twice as heavy as the flat six to boot. Unfortunately folks doing the conversion want more than a drag racecar. They think they are smart, avoiding a costly flat six rebuild.
I think it says MOROSO on the valve covers. I have seen one of these conversions in town, a 74 targa with a pretty rough body. It was for sale for 6500. I thought that was an okay asking price for such an animal. I looked at it closely, also under the lid. It was fairly well done. Was odd to have a V8 lopey cam rumble in there. Guy took off at WOT, and you could see the poor thing having a hard time keeping the front wheels on the ground. ![]() It's this person's car, so he can do whatever he wants with it. The Porsche police can't get him. But he will be dissapointed finding out that nobody will pay anywhere close to his asking price for the frankenstein. George |

I'm not sure what was harder to take?
This... ![]() or this... ![]() ![]() ![]() PS: To be honest I'd love to take one of these V8 conversions for test drive just so I could see for myself the impact. It just doesn't strike me as being much fun as putting a V8 into a TVR or building a Cobra replica.

it looks as though its been done well.
i didnt like the look of the interior - but if its std fair play. i've seen plenty of 911's with owners that have lets say, a curious taste in what constitutes a good upgrade on their car......... plus, the V8 was always my fav sounding lump - 2nd best now of course. each to their own.

I'm sure that anyone who takes a trip to Vegas can find Renegade and test drive a V8 Porsche. They're right off the strip. To be honest, I've heard very good things about these guys, also that the cars do handle quite well.
I wouldn't discount them at all. It's a matter of "whine" vs "rumble." And, of course, getting flamed for what's powering the car. All in all, a V8 Porsche can do some serious damage speed wise...and pride wise to non-V8 Porsches. At least that's what I hear.

actually the small block chevy weighs less than the 930 motor...if you go with aluminum case, heads, it weighs less than the 911... people often laugh about what they don't understand, plenty of people in rural MN wondered "what the hell does he want a Porsche for?" same issue with those who will say "who the hell wants a V8 in the 911?" to each man his own... I agree the interior is loud, but that is a PORSCHE color...is it lipstick red? I've heard very good things on the RH conversions, but I've also heard negative things as well...If I was to do something like this, I'd go with the Porschev.com setup b/c you don't have to butcher the car for cooling and from what I understand they've been doing this since the 60's... IMO it's no different dropping a 3.6 or a SB350 into the 911...both are bastards w/o the original engine...the one difference that bothers me is that SB350 will have more HP... to each his own though...

I've posted on this before...not that I particularly endorse such a conversion, but for the sake of accuracy:
- a SB Chevy is surprisingly light ( or a Porsche 6 surprisingly heavy for all that "expensive light alloy")... - a 3.2 weighs 460 lbs or so....so does a SB Cast Iron block Chevy with aluminum heads. Of course, the Chevy needs a supplemental radiator ( however...in the front which helps weight balance), and the P-engine is fully OK with on-board fan/cooling system. - Renegade has been in successful business since 1968. Should say something about the potential for getting it right if you follow directions. --Wil Ferch

It's pretty amazing how ell it fits back there. Do I like it? Nope! But, I do like the conversion they do on the 914.

That color is called Can Can red I believe. It is BRIGHT! I kinda like it. Living with it would be another story.
Seems kinda strange to me to use a SB 400. It's gotta be a little tough to cool these V8 conversions. Why go with the SB 400 when it is notorious for running hot? I believe the cylinder walls are thin/really close to the water jackets. My brother had a heck of a time keeping his SB 400 cool (using a large HD radiator and larger water pump) in a '79 Chevy Caprice coupe. To each his own. I'll bet it's darn fast!
